Job Summary
Refrigeration Technician II – Ops position responsible for overseeing the safe operation, daily monitoring, and maintenance of large‑scale industrial computer‑based ammonia systems and office HVAC systems. Provides assistance to Refrigeration Tech II & III and Facility Manager to ensure assets (Refrigeration/HVAC/Electrical systems) are managed in accordance with IIAR, ASHRAE, ASME, EPA, OSHA, and applicable State and Local Codes. Ideal candidate has HVAC/R schooling, RETA Certified Industrial Refrigeration Operator (CIRO) certification, universal EPA, and at least four years’ experience with service/maintenance of HVAC/R.
Pay: up to $34.90‑$41.88 per hour, based on experience. 2nd Shift available:
Mon‑Fri 2:30pm‑11:00pm. $600 annual tool allowance and annual boot allowance provided.
- Perform required inspections and preventive maintenance of refrigeration storage equipment ranging from 50 HP to 3,000 HP.
- Use working knowledge of screw and reciprocal compressors, electrical troubleshooting of all common types of ammonia central systems, and control/alarm systems to perform inspections and preventive maintenance as required.
- Knowledge of controls and electric (high and low voltage).
- Knowledge of PC and PLC based master refrigeration control systems.
- Maintain the freezer and cooler ammonia system through scheduled preventive maintenance activities (oil level checks, oil analysis, filter changes, belt checks and replacements, ammonia leak checks, compressor and condenser cycle checks, water treatment chemical level checks).
- Record time and materials into the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) daily in the form of work orders and preventive maintenance records.
- Oversee and manage Refrigeration, Electrical, and HVAC systems including monitoring and trending, troubleshooting and repairs (compressors, condensers, fans, heating, cooling, contractors, motors, microprocessors, frequency drives, etc.) and leak detection.
- Maintain product integrity through temperature monitoring and control and evaluate and report equipment condition.
- Complete small electrical repairs and welding projects as needed to reduce dependence on contractors.
- Communicate daily all pertinent system operation and maintenance information to departmental management and maintenance teams.
- Housekeep and cleanup refrigeration machine rooms, maintenance areas, and all project areas daily.
- Interpret and understand plans, specifications, schematics, op‑m manuals, and other documents for systems overseen.
- Conduct audits ensuring all required inspections and documentation are completed accurately (including food safety documentation, ePSM, PSM, etc.).
- Check condition of freezer and cooler curtains.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot HVAC equipment problems, repair or replace defective equipment, and conduct preventive maintenance tasks and inspections.
- Suggest efficiency ideas, cost‑reduction measures and assist with implementing changes within the facility maintenance department.
- Work exposed to extreme cold and heat and environments with ammonia, noise, dust, paint, grease and high‑voltage wires.
- Perform other duties as assigned, including non‑refrigeration tasks such as light carpentry, painting, light plumbing, bulb changes, and repair of minor electrical devices, fleet, MHE, and grounds maintenance.
- Adhere to all safety requirements and wear the proper personal protective equipment.
- Participate in departmental on‑call program as designated.
- Utilize CMMS daily to order necessary parts and follow department procedures.
- Maintain all tools and equipment in clean, safe, working order and maintain adequate inventory of related parts.
- Maintain technical skills and required certifications to perform job duties.
- Respond to emergency situations to ensure employee and facility safety, champion overall safety in the department.
- Comply with OSHA and all local, state and federal regulations.
- Cooperate and collaborate with leadership to meet strategic goals.
