Definition
Under the direction and general supervision of the Public Works Supervisor, this position is to perform general cleaning and custodial functions for assigned City buildings and facilities; and to perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
Supervision received/exerciseReceives direct supervision from the Public Works Supervisor and indirect supervision from the Public Works Director.
Essential function statementThe following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Sweeps, mop floors, performs all levels of floor care maintenance including stripping, waxing, and buffing
- Interior and exterior window cleaning
- Dusts and polishes furniture, stainless steel and all office fixtures
- Orders and replenishes supplies
- Empties and cleans waste receptacles
- Cleans and sanitizes rest rooms
- Washes windows and walls; vacuums, shampoos, scrubs and cleans carpets
- Performs event set-ups and take-downs, and cleans equipment and facilities for special events; provides information to the public
- Turns out lights, locks doors and windows
- Prepares building deficiency reports for repairs
- Takes care of materials and equipment used in work
- Maintains building security
- Makes deliveries, including materials for City Council, Boards, and Commissions meetings
- Meets performance standards
- Drives on City business
- Knowledge of methods, materials and equipment used in custodial work.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing:
- Maintain City facilities in a clean, sanitized and orderly condition;
- Understand and carry out oral and written instructions, and work as a team member;
- Learn new methods of maintaining and cleanliness of buildings;
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, fellow employees, contractor, and the public.
Environmental Conditions:
Working conditions are mostly an indoor environment. However, an aspect of the position requires going to the parks to secure the restroom facilities which would include various weather conditions and ground conditions.
Physical Conditions:
Essential functions may be required in the performance of daily activities, bending, stooping, kneeling, crawling, standing, sitting, or walking for prolonged periods of time. Mobility to work in this position will require the following: stamina to stand for extended periods of time; strength to lift and carry cleaning materials and equipment; agility to bend and stretch to reach areas of cleaning;
and vision to read printed materials.
Performance Requirement:
Dependable, prompt, regular attendance. Professional telephone and email etiquette, including returning voicemails and emails promptly. Ability to cooperate with the public and co-workers. Tolerance for the stress of multiple simultaneous, possible conflicting demands. Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize tasks with attention to detail.
Ability to obtain CPR/First Aid certi?cation within the ?rst year of employment.
