investigating incidents; completing reports; and filing and maintaining documentation.
* Inspects structures for compliance by reading and interpreting plans; reviewing and interpreting codes; approving or denying installation of materials or systems; developing reports and correspondence; issuing certificates of occupancy; and providing additional information to property owners and construction personnel.
* Maintains records and documents by recording progress; preparing reports; researching and preparing budget documents; and entering data.
* Reviews plans, applications, and other requests by answering customer inquiries and providing information; conferring with architects, engineers, builders and property owners; explaining codes and ordinances; and scheduling inspections.
* Determines status of structures by responding to requests; examining structures for safety, allowed occupancy, condemnation, repair or demolition; determining requirements for code compliance.
* Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management or other related field;
* Or equivalent training, education, and/or experience; and
* Valid Driver's License.
* Knowledge of City policies and procedures;
* Working knowledge of the principles of structures and building materials;
* Working knowledge of the International Building Codes, the National Electrical Code, and/or other related regulations;
* Working knowledge of the defects and hazards in structural installation and equipment
* Knowledge of accessibility requirements for disabled individuals;
* Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite;
* Skill in reading and interpreting building construction plans and specifications;
* Skill in communicating effectively both orally and in writing;
* Ability to interpret and apply City codes and ordinances;
* Ability to obtain State of Texas Plumbing Inspector License within six (6) months from date of hire;
* Ability to work flexible hours, including some nights and weekends; and
* Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with City administration, other employees, and the general public.
