About the Role:

The Wound Care Nurse Practitioner plays a critical role in providing specialized care to patients with acute and chronic wounds, aiming to promote healing and prevent complications. This position involves comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, and management of various wound types, including diabetic ulcers, pressure injuries, and surgical wounds. The practitioner collaborates closely with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized treatment plans that optimize patient outcomes.

Additionally, the role requires educating patients and their families on wound care techniques and preventive measures to support long‑term health. Ultimately, the Wound Care Nurse Practitioner contributes to improving quality of life for patients through expert clinical care and evidence-based practice.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current and unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license in the United States.
  • Certification as a Wound Care Nurse Practitioner or equivalent credential (e.g., Wound Care Certified - WCC).
  • Master's or Doctoral degree in Nursing from an accredited program.
  • Minimum of 2 years clinical experience in wound care or related specialty.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in multidisciplinary wound care clinics or home health settings.
  • Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems and telehealth platforms.
  • Additional certifications such as Certified Hyperbaric Technologist (CHT) or Certified Diabetic Educator (CDE).
  • Strong background in patient education and community health promotion.
  • Research experience or involvement in quality improvement initiatives related to wound care.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough patient assessments including history taking, physical examination, and wound evaluation using standardized tools.
  • Develop and implement individualized wound care treatment plans based on clinical findings and best practice guidelines.
  • Perform advanced wound care procedures such as debridement, dressing application, and infection management.
  • Collaborate with physicians, physical therapists, dietitians, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate comprehensive patient care.
  • Educate patients and caregivers on wound prevention, care techniques, and lifestyle modifications to support healing and reduce recurrence.
  • Document patient progress accurately and maintain detailed medical records in compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Stay current with emerging wound care research and integrate new evidence-based practices into clinical protocols.

The Wound Care Nurse Practitioner utilizes advanced clinical assessment skills daily to accurately diagnose and stage wounds, ensuring appropriate treatment selection. Effective communication skills are essential for educating patients and collaborating with healthcare teams to coordinate care plans.
