Summary

The Electrical Technician is responsible for operating and maintaining electrical equipment and components related to construction and maintenance projects involving water, wastewater and building facilities in accordance with federal, state and local policies and procedures.

Examples of Work
  • Perform predictive, preventive and corrective maintenance on all electrical equipment within the scope of the facilities department, including telemetry, industrial motor controls (both AC and DC) and solid‑state devices.
  • Periodically calibrate process meters to ensure accuracy traceable to the National Bureau of Standards and to FDEP requirements; provide documentation and ensure all preventive maintenance tasks are completed as scheduled.
  • Troubleshoot electrical problems and utilize wiring schematics.
  • Service low‑voltage electrical equipment (voltage 5–50 VDC; 12–480 VAC) and perform installation and start‑up of new and rebuilt equipment.
  • Ensure accountability of all equipment and materials used in the repair or maintenance of electrical equipment and facilities.
  • Regularly inspect equipment for malfunctions; service mechanical and electrical control systems (starters, timers, controllers, telemetry systems); determine the need for repair or replacement and replace faulty circuit board components.
  • Install, repair and maintain SCADA control systems; coordinate with the IT department and other contractors to maintain SCADA operations.
  • Maintain protective coatings on electrical equipment.
  • Perform general housekeeping duties, including vehicle cleaning and waxing, shop clean‑up, and site cleanup.
  • Provide instruction and training to electrical apprentices in methods, procedures, equipment use, preventive maintenance and facility maintenance.
  • Carry out electrical work and preventive maintenance related to water, wastewater and facilities.
  • Utilize work orders for completeness and accuracy of maintenance and cost/expenditure tracking.
  • Assist with electrical, maintenance and construction projects by communicating with other departments to minimize disruption to business activities.
  • Review blueprints, diagrams, schematics, sketches and other electrical, structural documentation during the planning phase of construction, modification and maintenance projects.
  • Initiate corrective actions as necessary to maintain local, state and federal professional electrical and construction standards.
  • Meet work schedule and attendance standards, including on‑call requirements; inspect and evaluate operations and maintenance of electrical systems.
  • Ensure all electrical personnel are trained and qualified to work unsupervised; assist personnel in accomplishing daily duties.
  • Use company software programs for work orders, service requests and preventive maintenance; capture all details before closing documents.
  • Attend required safety and skills training and ensure proper use of PPE related to work activities.
  • Perform all additional reasonably related duties as assigned by the Electrical Supervisor or Facilities Manager.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED from the American Council on Education or Florida Department of Education; a valid Journeyman Electrician license (or higher) or a minimum of five (5) years of experience in industrial electrical construction and maintenance. Knowledge of computer skills, including Word, Outlook, and Excel. Must possess a valid driver’s license and be insurable through the company’s insurance carrier.

Preference may be given to individuals with direct experience with SCADA operations, including monitoring system performance, interpreting digital telemetry, troubleshooting communication failures, and familiarity with PLCs and ladder logic.
