Please Note: This vacancy is being announced at two different job classes at the same time:
Engineer Senior and Engineer 2 Graduate. Only one position will be filled; the final class and starting salary of this position is dependent on the successful applicant’s qualifications.

This position is located at the Detroit Lakes Headquarters and has the flexibility to telework up to 2 days per week or work in the office every day. The incumbent will be required to make a telework arrangement with their supervisor. The incumbent will be expected to work in the office as determined by policy and discussion with their supervisor.

This position exists to assist in supervision and delivery in the District Design Section. The position provides engineering expertise and supervision for the delivery of highway construction/transportation plans and documentation to ensure compliance with MnDOT standards and policies.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation does not sponsor applicants for work visas or Optional Practical Training Extensions for STEM Students. Individuals must be legally authorized to work in the US at the start of employment.



Minimum Qualifications



Minimum Qualifications for Engineer Senior:

To qualify for Engineer Senior, applicants must meet all the following:
  • Licensure as a professional Engineer with the Minnesota Board of Architecture, Engineering, Land Surveying, Landscape Architecture, Geoscience, and Interior Design (AELSLAGID). (If obtaining licensure through Comity, a temporary permit from AELSLAGID must be provided to MnDOT HR prior to starting employment.)
Qualifications must also demonstrate:
  • Experience managing transportation projects.
  • Experience applying engineering principles, practices, techniques and methods.
  • Experience coordinator and/or directing the work of staff and/or consultants.


Minimum Qualifications for Engineer 2 Graduate:

To qualify, Engineer 2 Graduate applicants must meet all the following:
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited college or university or its equivalency as rated by NCEES/EAC.
