The Assistant Controller, under the supervision of the Controller, will support the audit, analysis, and evaluation of financial processes and reporting as well as the preparation of Firm financial statements. The Assistant Controller will oversee accounting support for the firm’s international operations in Israel, assisting in the development of best practices for treasury functions, such as the management of cash, cash flow forecasting, and investment.
This role will also be instrumental in supporting the Firm’s outside audit, the preparation of year-end audit reports, the preparation of schedules for the Firm’s tax returns, and the coordination of day-to-day activities of the general accounting staff.
- Assist with the timely preparation of monthly financial statements, management reports, budgets, variance analyses, and ad hoc accounting analyses; present financial information in a clear, decision-oriented manner.
- Coordinate and oversee daily general accounting operations, including supervision of accounting staff, allocation of work, team development, and participate in performance reviews.
- Support the month-end close process, including review of journal entries, bank reconciliations, cash balances, fixed asset activity, and accuracy of general ledger accounts.
- Review income and expense activity prepared by accounts payable and cash receipts teams to ensure proper classification and accuracy.
- Prepare cash forecasts and oversee daily cash monitoring; participate in banking activities, including approval of payments and coordination with banking partners.
- Assist with operating and capital budget preparation and analyze budget versus actual results, including preparation of monthly variance analyses.
- Establish, maintain, and enhance internal controls to ensure the integrity of accounting information, effective cost management, and strong cash controls; recommend system and reporting improvements as appropriate.
- Oversee accounting support for international operations, including foreign currency transactions, foreign exchange translation, and coordination of accounting activities.
- Support partner-related accounting, including understanding partner compensation structures, distributions, capital accounts, and related reporting.
- Oversee research and compliance related to unclaimed property and escheatment.
- Support Firm departments and attorneys on accounting policies, expense classification, and procedural matters; coordinate fulfillment of accounting-related requests.
- Ensure Firm management principles, policies, and programs are consistently applied within the accounting function.
- Support special projects and other business needs as they arise.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting. CPA or MBA preferred.
- 6-8 years of progressive accounting experience with lead or supervisory experience.
- Prior professional service firm experience and partnership accounting experience preferred.
- Demonstrated experience with multinational companies and international accounting.
- Strong general accounting, financial reporting, audit, and internal controls experience.
- Proven analytical ability, good judgment, and organizational skills.
- Excellent critical thinking skills with a strong attention to detail.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Exceptional team management skills with leadership potential.
- Mastery of MS Excel.
