Our client, a growing environmental services organization, is seeking a Hybrid Accounting Manager to join their team in Detroit. Following the promotion of their Controller into a VP of Finance role, they are seeking a hands‑on accounting leader to help support the continued growth of the organization. In this role, you will oversee accounting operations, financial reporting, month‑end closing, and a team of three supervisors across accounting, accounts payable, and procurement.
This is a hands‑on leadership role requiring strong technical accounting expertise, the ability to partner closely with operations, and comfort working in a fast‑paced environment where processes and systems continue to evolve. Beyond the qualifications below, they are looking for someone who is resourceful, proactive, and committed to continuous improvement, someone who can lead by example, knows when to step in to support the team, and is comfortable influencing others and holding them accountable.

- Lead, mentor, and develop members of the accounting team (3 direct reports)
- Oversee daily accounting operations and financial reporting activities
- Manage general ledger accounting and month‑end close processes
- Provide oversight of accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll functions
- Ensure accurate financial reporting in accordance with GAAP
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Develop and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
- Support audit readiness and compliance initiatives
- Oversee accounting related to contracts, project‑based revenue, and cost allocations
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities
- Monitor program and operational financial performance
- Drive process improvements across accounting and finance functions
- Support system enhancements, automation efforts, and workflow efficiencies
- 2+ years of people leadership experience required
- 6+ years of accounting experience required
- Strong knowledge of accrual accounting and financial reporting required
- Advanced Excel skills including VLOOKUPs required
