Project Accountant

A great UHY client is seeking a Controller to lead accounting and operational finance activities within a growing luxury custom home building organization. This role will oversee construction accounting, job costing, month-end close, and operational support functions while serving as a key business partner to ownership and leadership. The ideal candidate will bring strong construction accounting experience along with a proactive, hands‑on approach to process improvement and operational oversight.

The Controller role is a fully onsite position based in Bloomfield Hills, MI. This is a permanent, direct‑hire opportunity offering strong compensation, bonus potential, and the opportunity to play a highly visible role within a growing organization.

• Oversee day‑to‑day accounting and financial operations
• Manage construction accounting, including job costing and monthly billing activities
• Lead month‑end close and financial reporting processes
• Coordinate year‑end activities and support external tax/accounting partners
• Supervise accounting and administrative staff
• Support operational initiatives, including insurance tracking, vendor compliance, and process improvements
• Partner with leadership on project management, operational oversight, and business initiatives
• Develop and improve internal processes, tracking tools, and workflows
• Assist with HR, vendor management, and office operations as needed
• Construction accounting experience required
• Home building or real estate industry experience preferred
• Prior management or supervisory experience required
• Sage ERP or similar system experience preferred
• Strong understanding of job costing and cost‑plus billing environments
• Ability to work hands‑on in both accounting and operational functions
• Strong organizational, project management, and follow‑up skills
• Proactive, resourceful mindset with strong problem‑solving abilities
