Senior Grant/Contract Administrator, Division of Research & Innovation
Position
Purpose:
Coordinate sponsored program administrative functions for a School/College/Division or other unit with large, complex sponsored projects. Includes fiscal and administrative review of sponsored grant and contract proposals; review and processing of agreements; and management and processing of financial transactions.
- Coordinate pre and post award aspects of the sponsored project administration process for complex, multifaceted proposals to ensure compliance with university, sponsor, and applicable policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Assist faculty in identifying funding opportunities and preparing proposals; review proposal budgets and narratives for compliance; submit proposals to Sponsored Program Administration (SPA) for required approvals.
- Review awarded grants and contracts; monitor expenditures; assist with budget transfers and project period extensions; monitor payroll; review close-out documents.
- Serve as primary liaison between principal investigators and SPA; provide guidance on use of sponsored project funds.
- Provide direct management over research funding; develop and maintain databases; perform financial analysis and prepare reports on sponsored proposal, award, and expenditure activity.
- Supervise non‑exempt clerical and accounting support staff; assign duties, train, and monitor performance.
- Perform other related work as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business or Public Administration or related field with substantial experience in grant and contract administration; or bachelor’s degree in any field with optimal experience in grant and contract administration.
- Considerable accounting experience, primarily in sponsored project budgeting and accounting.
- Considerable experience in proposal preparation for federal and other sponsored sources.
- Experience with university information systems (e.g., Banner) and data analysis software (spreadsheets, charts).
- Experience in data analysis and report development.
- Reasonable supervisory experience; ability to independently manage projects with multiple deadlines.
- Knowledge of business process improvements.
- Ability to interpret, explain, and apply complex rules, regulations, and policies.
- Previous university experience as Grant/Contract Administrator, Grant/Contract Officer, senior budget analyst, accountant, or administrative assistant in a unit with significant sponsored project activity.
- Regular employee, full‑time, staff/administrative.
- Compensation: annual salary, $61,906 – $74,290.
- Normal office environment.
This position must be filled pursuant to the provisions of a collective bargaining agreement, and may be filled by a qualified bargaining unit member, if one applies.
