Director of Accounting

LHH Recruitment Solutions is partnering with a well-established, privately held real estate organization in the Metro Detroit area on a Director of Accounting opportunity supporting a large and growing property management portfolio.

• Lead all accounting operations supporting a large multifamily property management portfolio
• Oversee property accounting, treasury management, and accounts payable functions
• Mentor, coach, and develop accounting managers while fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement
• Review financial statements, account reconciliations, month‑end close activities, and variance analyses
• Ensure compliance with GAAP, internal controls, and company policies
• Manage cash flow forecasting, treasury operations, banking relationships, and multi‑entity financial activities
• Partner with executive leadership on strategic initiatives, budgeting, forecasting, and operational decision‑making
• Evaluate and improve accounting processes, systems, and reporting efficiencies across the organization

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA preferred)
• 7+ years of progressive accounting experience
• 3+ years of accounting leadership experience managing teams
• Current or recent multifamily property management/real estate accounting experience required
• Proven experience leading managers and building high‑performing, accountable teams
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, treasury, and internal controls
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
• Experience with Yardi or another property management ERP preferred
• Ability to balance strategic leadership with a willingness to dive into the details when needed
• Strong communication, conflict resolution, and process improvement skills
• Self‑motivated leader who thrives in a fast‑paced, high‑growth environment
