Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead all accounting and financial reporting activities
  • Oversee general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, grants, and cash management
  • Prepare financial statements and oversee annual audit activities
  • Support annual budgeting, forecasting, and long-range financial planning
  • Develop and strengthen internal controls and accounting procedures
  • Partner with executive leadership on strategic financial initiatives
  • Supervise and mentor accounting and finance staff
  • Present financial information to executive leadership and governing stakeholders
  • Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards and regulatory requirements
  • Drive process improvements across the finance organization

Ideal background:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
  • CPA preferred but not required
  • Five or more years of progressive accounting and finance leadership experience
  • Experience with in public sector, nonprofit, governmental, municipal, education, or similarly complex organizations strongly preferred
  • Public accounting professionals with governmental or nonprofit audit experience are highly encouraged to apply
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, budgeting, internal controls, and audit management
  • Experience leading accounting teams and developing staff
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain financial information to non-financial stakeholders
  • Experience with ERP/accounting systems
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities
  • Looking for someone who enjoys building teams, improving processes, and leading through change
