Key responsibilities include:
- Lead all accounting and financial reporting activities
- Oversee general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, grants, and cash management
- Prepare financial statements and oversee annual audit activities
- Support annual budgeting, forecasting, and long-range financial planning
- Develop and strengthen internal controls and accounting procedures
- Partner with executive leadership on strategic financial initiatives
- Supervise and mentor accounting and finance staff
- Present financial information to executive leadership and governing stakeholders
- Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards and regulatory requirements
- Drive process improvements across the finance organization
Ideal background:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
- CPA preferred but not required
- Five or more years of progressive accounting and finance leadership experience
- Experience with in public sector, nonprofit, governmental, municipal, education, or similarly complex organizations strongly preferred
- Public accounting professionals with governmental or nonprofit audit experience are highly encouraged to apply
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, budgeting, internal controls, and audit management
- Experience leading accounting teams and developing staff
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain financial information to non-financial stakeholders
- Experience with ERP/accounting systems
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities
