Construction Superintendent Job Description
The Superintendent independently supervises an area of trade contractors with work valued up to $30 million. This individual is responsible for the day-to-day field coordination of trade partners to ensure high-quality work that aligns with project schedules and contract documents.
Responsibilities- Develop and communicate work plans to ensure clarity among team members.
- Maintain detailed project documentation for accurate record‑keeping.
- Manage schedules and logistics to ensure timely project completion.
- Oversee quality control to maintain high standards of construction.
- Act as the primary safety representative on site, ensuring a secure work environment.
- Lead contractor meetings, daily huddles, and pre‑task planning sessions.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and safety‑first work environment.
- Support constructability reviews, change management, and subcontractor coordination.
- Conduct inspections and mentor less experienced field staff.
- 4–8+ years of experience as a Superintendent on commercial construction projects valued between $15 million and $30 million or more.
- Strong field supervision experience managing multiple trade partners and subcontractors.
- Proven ability to manage jobsite safety, quality, schedule, and logistics.
- OSHA 30‑hour certification.
- Proficiency with construction documentation, drawings, and scheduling software.
- Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to lead subcontractor meetings and daily huddles.
Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field is a bonus.
- STS‑C certification is a bonus; sponsorship for certification is available if not currently held.
- Experience delivering projects in sectors such as Higher Education, Healthcare, Institutional, and K–12 is advantageous.
This is an on‑site, field‑based role on active commercial construction projects. The environment is fast‑paced and collaborative, working closely with Project Managers, Field Engineers, trade partners, owners, and inspectors. There is a strong commitment to safety and inclusivity.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Detroit, MI.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $43.30 - $57.70/hr eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
