Job Description

The Superintendent independently supervises field operations for commercial construction projects with trade contractor work valued up to $30M. This role oversees the day-to-day coordination of trade partners to ensure high-quality work that meets project schedules, contract documents, and safety standards. The Superintendent leads on-site activities, manages logistics and documentation, and fosters a positive, inclusive, and safety-first jobsite culture while supporting the successful delivery of high-profile institutional, education, and healthcare projects.

Responsibilities

+ Independently supervise an assigned area of trade contractors on commercial construction projects with work valued up to $30M.

+ Coordinate day-to-day field activities of multiple trade partners and subcontractors to ensure work aligns with project schedules and contract documents.

+ Develop, communicate, and implement detailed work plans for field operations and trade activities.

+ Maintain accurate and up-to-date project documentation, including drawings, reports, logs, and field records.

+ Manage jobsite schedules and logistics, including sequencing of work, deliveries, access, and site utilization.

+ Oversee quality control in the field to ensure construction meets design intent, specifications, and company standards.

+ Serve as the primary safety representative on site, promoting and enforcing a safety-first culture and compliance with safety policies.

+ Lead subcontractor meetings, daily huddles, and pre-task planning sessions to align teams on goals, risks, and daily priorities.

+ Support constructability reviews and provide field input to improve design implementation and construction means and methods.

+ Assist with change management processes, including identification of field impacts and coordination with project management.

+ Coordinate inspections with owners, inspectors, and relevant authorities to ensure timely approvals and compliance.

+ Collaborate closely with Project Managers, Field Engineers, and other project stakeholders to drive successful project outcomes.

+ Mentor and support less experienced field staff, sharing best practices in safety, quality, scheduling, and field coordination.

+ Foster a positive, inclusive, and collaborative jobsite environment that reflects a strong safety culture.

+ Represent the project and organization professionally when interacting with owners, design teams, inspectors, and trade partners.

Essential Skills

+ 4-8+ years of experience working as a Superintendent on commercial construction projects valued $15M-$30M+.

+ Strong field supervision experience managing multiple trade partners and subcontractors on active jobsites.

+ Proven ability to manage jobsite safety, quality, schedule, and logistics in a commercial construction environment.

+ OSHA 30-hour certification.

+ Proficiency with construction documentation and drawings, including the ability to interpret and coordinate plans and specifications.

+ Experience using scheduling software to plan, track, and adjust construction activities.

+ Demonstrated experience in commercial, ground-up, vertical construction projects.

+ Experience working with or for a general contractor in a construction supervision capacity.

+ Strong communication skills, including the ability to lead subcontractor meetings and daily huddles.

+ Proven leadership skills with the ability to direct field teams and trade partners effectively.

+ Solid understanding of construction safety practices and procedures.

Additional

Skills & Qualifications

+ Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field (preferred).

+ STS-C certification (preferred; employer-sponsored certification support is available if not currently held).

+ Experience delivering projects in higher education, healthcare, institutional, or K-12 sectors (preferred).

+ Experience on projects for universities and major educational institutions (preferred).

+ Interest in ongoing professional development and participation in employer-sponsored training and certifications.

+ Ability to contribute to a strong safety culture and inclusive work environment.

+ Motivation to grow a career with a nationally recognized general contractor and work on high-profile projects.

Work Environment

This is a salaried, on-site, field-based role on active commercial construction projects. The Superintendent works in a fast-paced, collaborative jobsite environment and spends the majority of time in the field coordinating construction activities. The role involves close collaboration with Project Managers, Field Engineers, trade partners, owners, and inspectors on a daily basis. The work environment emphasizes a strong safety culture, inclusive team dynamics, and opportunities to work on high-profile institutional, education, and healthcare projects.
