Location: Hybrid (Detroit, MI Preferred; Minimum 3 Days On-Site)
Job Type: Full-Time | Exempt
Compensation: $80,000-$90,000 (based on experience)
We are seeking a motivated Junior Estimator to join our Preconstruction team. This entry-level to early-career role supports senior estimators throughout the estimating process, including quantity takeoffs, subcontractor solicitation, bid coordination, and post-award documentation. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, eager to learn, and interested in building a career in commercial construction estimating. Prior estimating experience is preferred but not required for candidates with strong technical aptitude and relevant education or internship experience.
Key Responsibilities- Perform quantity takeoffs from construction drawings using industry-standard estimating software under the guidance of senior estimators.
- Assist in preparing estimate spreadsheets, cost summaries, takeoff logs, and bid documentation across CSI divisions.
- Review drawings, specifications, and addenda to identify scope requirements and support estimate updates.
- Assist with general conditions pricing, estimate templates, historical cost databases, and unit cost libraries.
- Identify discrepancies or missing information in project documents and communicate findings to senior team members.
- Assist with subcontractor bid invitations and track bid coverage throughout the solicitation process.
- Organize subcontractor proposals and support preliminary scope comparisons.
- Provide bid-day support by tracking incoming pricing and assisting with final estimate compilation.
- Follow up with subcontractors regarding pricing, documentation, and scope clarifications.
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related field preferred (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
- 1–4 years of experience in commercial construction estimating, project engineering, or a related construction role.
- Internship or co‑op experience in construction is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with construction drawings, specifications, and project documentation preferred.
Experience or familiarity with the following is preferred:
- Bluebeam Revu
- Sage Estimating or similar estimating software
- Microsoft Office 365 (Excel proficiency required)
- Building Connected or similar bid management platforms
Training will be provided for the right candidate.
Work Environment- Hybrid work environment with a minimum of three days per week in the office.
- Up to 15% local travel to project sites and meetings.
- Opportunity to work alongside experienced preconstruction professionals on active commercial construction projects ranging from tenant improvements to large‑scale developments.
- Occasional extended hours during active bid deadlines.
