Senior Project Manager - Detroit, Michigan Help Lead the Future of Detroit

Clark Construction Company is seeking an accomplished Senior Project Manager to lead some of the most impactful construction projects across Detroit and Southeast Michigan. This leadership role offers a unique opportunity to support the continued growth, revitalization, and transformation of Detroit while helping expand Clark's presence in one of Michigan's most dynamic construction markets.

As Clark establishes a new Detroit-area office, we are investing in talented leaders who share our commitment to building strong communities, delivering exceptional client experiences, and driving project success. The Senior Project Manager will provide strategic leadership across multiple projects, mentor project teams, cultivate client relationships, and play a key role in business development efforts throughout the region.

The ideal candidate is a proven construction leader with extensive experience managing complex commercial construction projects and building high-performing teams. Experience with historic renovation, restoration, preservation, and adaptive reuse projects is highly preferred, as Detroit continues to experience significant investment in its historic buildings and neighborhoods.

Based in Detroit, Michigan, serving clients throughout Southeast Michigan. Ideal candidates may reside in Detroit, Dearborn, Royal Oak, Auburn Hills, Troy, Sterling Heights, or surrounding communities.

Key Responsibilities Strategic Project Leadership
  • Provide overall leadership and direction for multiple construction projects from preconstruction through closeout.
  • Develop and oversee comprehensive project execution strategies, including budgeting, scheduling, risk management, quality assurance, procurement, and change management.
  • Ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in alignment with client expectations.
Project Planning & Oversight
  • Define and maintain detailed project scopes, schedules, work breakdown structures, and project controls.
  • Anticipate and proactively manage scope, budget, and schedule changes to minimize project risk and maximize project outcomes.
  • Lead project reviews and provide accurate forecasting, reporting, and performance analysis.
Resource & Team Management
  • Collaborate with superintendents and leadership to effectively allocate personnel, materials, equipment, and subcontractor resources.
  • Establish project priorities, balancing resources across multiple concurrent projects.
  • Mentor, coach, and develop project managers, project engineers, and other team members to support organizational growth and succession planning.
Client & Stakeholder Relationship Management
  • Serve as the senior point of contact for clients, architects, engineers, consultants, and trade partners.
  • Build and maintain trusted client relationships that result in repeat business and long-term partnerships.
  • Ensure clear communication, alignment, and accountability among all project stakeholders.
Performance Monitoring & Problem Resolution
  • Track and evaluate project performance metrics, identifying opportunities for improvement and implementing corrective actions when necessary.
  • Lead resolution efforts for complex project challenges involving cost, schedule, quality, contract administration, or project execution.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement across project teams.
Business Development & Market Growth
  • Partner with Clark's Business Development team to identify, pursue, and secure new opportunities throughout Southeast Michigan.
  • Represent Clark within the Detroit business and construction communities, strengthening relationships with owners, developers, and industry partners.
  • Support the strategic growth of Clark's new Detroit office and contribute to the company's long-term expansion plans in the region.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressively responsible project management experience in commercial construction.
  • Proven success managing large-scale, complex construction projects and overseeing multiple project teams.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to influence, mentor, and develop high-performing teams.
  • Extensive knowledge of construction operations, project delivery methods, budgeting, scheduling, contract administration, and risk management.
  • Experience with historic renovation, restoration, adaptive reuse, or preservation projects is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong client relationships that drive repeat business and market growth.
  • Proficiency with construction management and project controls software, along with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, strategic planning, and problem-solving skills.
