Description
The Communications Specialist (CS) supports the Communications Director in daily communications operations. This role helps to coordinate messaging and branding across all platforms (digital, print, advertising, etc.), prepares reports, writes and proofreads content for accuracy and consistency. The ideal candidate has a strong knowledge of the communications industry and is detail oriented, works well with a team and is eager to work to support DESC’s communications strategy.
RequirementsDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Draft and reviews social media content, newsletters, blog copy, etc.
- Assists with media buying, creative writing and logistics
- Compiles and maintains multiple lists
- Provides onsite event support
- Coordinates photographer and videographer requests
- Assists with website maintenance
- Assists with media relations and media monitoring
- Supports employer-focused communications
- Assists with communications related metrics
- Supports visual identity
- Write long-lead social media copy, content that is consistent and part of a larger campaign messaging.
- Work with graphic designer to create visual content that is consistent and complements the brand messaging
- Support media buying and complementary collateral
- Assist with internal communications and logistics
- Assist with compiling media reports across all platforms (digital, website, social, newsletters, etc.)
- 2-3 years of professional experience in the communications industry
- Strong writing and proofreading skills
- Working knowledge of social media and digital content tools
- Creative, energetic communications professional
- Knowledgeable in Salesforce and/or willing to learn
- Experience working with visual content and/or working with graphic designers
- Strong organizational skills, detail oriented and multi-tasking skills
- Self‑Starter with interests in community engagement, workforce development and public service
A bachelor’s degree or higher in digital marketing, communications, public relations, or a related discipline is preferred.
SUPERVISORY:None.
LICENSES:Valid State of Michigan Driver’s License and Insurance – Position requires field work.
OTHER:Background check and drug screen required.
