Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Affiliate Faculty position at Grand Valley State University – start Fall 2026.
SummaryFull‑time faculty who will teach introductory, intermediate, or advanced GIS courses at the undergraduate level and may assist with community GIS projects. Applicants must hold at least a master’s degree in GIS, Natural Resources Management, Geography, Environmental Science or a closely related field.
Required Qualifications- Master’s degree in Geographic Information Systems, Natural Resources Management, Geography, Environmental Science or a closely related field, completed prior to the start of Fall 2026.
- Demonstrated experience using and applying GIS to address natural resource management and environmental sustainability issues.
- Experience with ArcGIS Pro software, ArcGIS Online, geospatial database management and related governance.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to fostering a welcoming and supportive learning environment.
- PhD in Geographic Information Systems, Natural Resources Management, Geography, Environmental Science or a closely related field.
- Ability and vision to collaborate and build a multidisciplinary initiative to enhance undergraduate education and community partnerships.
- Experience managing and facilitating grants, income, endowments and other revenues.
- Experience enforcing ArcGIS Online content creation protocols and institutional data quality standards.
- Teach at least 12 contact hours per semester at introductory, intermediate or advanced levels.
- Develop and deliver courses focusing on cartography, remote sensing, web GIS and applications related to natural resources and environmental management.
- Assist with administrative work to support GIS projects with community partners.
Starting salary $54 000 annually, commensurate with experience. Benefits include medical, vision, dental, life insurance, generous employer retirement contributions, wellness resources and a tuition waiver effective on the date of hire.
