SUMMARY

The school psychologist provides a full range of psycho educational services to improve student outcomes in the school setting. They accomplish this by leading problem-solving efforts to support better student engagement and learning at an individual, classroom, and school level. School psychologists work with families, teachers, school administrators, and other professionals to create safe, healthy, and supportive learning environments.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Collect necessary, relevant data through the demonstrated ability to administer/interpret/analyze standardized assessments
  • Effectively use data to inform evidence-based decision-making
  • Assist identification of at-risk students and target intervention supports to address their learning challenges
  • Assess the effects of instructional strategies, curriculum application, supportiveness of the learning environment, and disability related learning challenges
  • Design response to intervention approaches leading to effective instructional strategies and learning supports.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of IDEA, ADA Section 504, and Michigan Special Education Law
  • Conduct functional behavior assessments and develop behavior intervention plans that support effective student engagement
  • Consult with parents and school staff to support student learning and behavior
  • Work with school staff to develop and implement school-wide positive behavioral supports
  • Assist exploration, installation, and implementation of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) by application of data informed consultation and systems coaching.
  • Provide support to assess the effectiveness of school wide systems

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Meets or is eligible for certification as a School Psychologist in Michigan.

Experience :
Three to five years of related experience is preferred.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Meets or is eligible for certification as a School Psychologist in Michigan.

  • Communication skills – ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, in writing and verbally.
  • Interpersonal skills – cooperative, courteous, flexible, good natured, and concerned with being helpful and representing the organization well.
  • Effective work skills – conscientious, persistent, resourceful, productive, and active.
  • It is anticipated that some stress will be associated with this position primarily due to deadlines and communication under sometimes difficult circumstances. It is necessary that the individual has the capacity to remain calm, considerate, and tactful.
  • Proficient in use of office equipment and essential computer software/technology.
  • A moderate amount of mobility is required.
  • This position may involve periodic lifting and carrying of materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with students, other faculty, staff, and parents as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle, or feel objects and controls.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The employee will work in a variety of settings such as normal office environment, special education classroom environment, home environment, etc.

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

Employee is expected to work 5 days per week, 7 hours per day during the school year. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

TRAVEL

The employee will be expected to occasionally travel between the 6 local districts and the CCRESA administrative offices in St. Johns.
