Role and Responsibilities

The following additional job description information is to be considered and included along with the Teacher job description for the position of Elementary Art Teacher:

* Assist the Middle School Art Teacher in the operation of the art program as it pertains to the middle school feeder system of which the elementary school is a part.

* Plan a program of study in art appreciation, as well as skills and techniques of art production that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of all students based on the district's education philosophy, goals, objectives, and individual student plans.

* Control the storage and use of school owned property and provide for adjustments and repairs to equipment as required for optimum use and longevity.

* Evaluate each student's artistic growth and performance including, but not limited to, the documentation of mastery of essential elements.

* Plan and direct students in art exhibits for schools and in the community, and cooperate with District and school administration in providing art exhibits for school products and civic functions.

* Select and requisition art supplies, equipment, instructional aids, state adopted texts, and other needed supplies and maintain required inventory and maintenance records.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

* Minimum of a bachelor's degree from an accredited collegiate institution.

* Valid Michigan teaching certificate or such other credentials as may be required by the Melvindale-Northern Allen Park School District for this position.

* Meet Highly Qualified Standards.

* Visual Arts Education (LQ)) endorsement preferred.

* If hired after 2014, ESL endorsement or higher degree in TESOL, Bilingual Education, or other district approved area of study is required within 5 years of hire.

Job Summary

The goal of the Elementary Art Teacher is to develop in each pupil an appreciation of art as part of general culture; to teach techniques of art expression; to discover and develop the talents of pupils in the field of art; to develop knowledge and skills related to the production of art works.

Evaluation

Performance of this position will be evaluated annually in accordance with the requirements of the District and state law.

Terms of employment

Salary and work year to be determined by local contract.
