Overview
The Attendance Coordinator is responsible for monitoring, supporting, and improving student attendance to promote academic success and compliance with state attendance laws. This role focuses on data monitoring, family communication, student interventions, case management, and collaboration with school staff. The Attendance Coordinator also provides translation support for families and staff as needed.
Key Responsibilities Attendance Monitoring & Data Management- Track daily student attendance, including absences, tardiness, and early dismissals.
- Analyze attendance data to identify patterns, trends, and students at risk of chronic absenteeism.
- Maintain accurate attendance records and documentation for audits, reporting, and compliance purposes.
- Prepare and organize attendance documentation for internal and external audits.
- Notify parents/guardians of student absences through phone calls, written/electronic communication, or other approved methods.
- Conduct follow-up calls and, when appropriate, coordinate or conduct home visits to identify barriers to regular attendance.
- Serve as a liaison between families, school staff, and administrators regarding attendance concerns.
- Provide translation and language support for families and staff, as needed.
- Develop, implement, and monitor individualized attendance improvement plans for at-risk students.
- Utilize a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework to address attendance concerns at Tier I, II, and III levels.
- Collaborate with counselors, administrators, teachers, and support staff to align attendance interventions with student needs.
- Prepare truancy referrals.
- Coordinate with social services, community agencies, and school administration in cases of chronic absenteeism or neglect.
- Ensure compliance with state attendance law, school policies, and reporting requirements.
- Design, implement, and oversee school-wide or classroom-based attendance incentive programs.
- Promote positive attendance culture through recognition, communication, and engagement strategies.
- Attend meetings, trainings, and professional development related to attendance, student support, and compliance.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the school administration.
- High school diploma or equivalent (Associate’s degree or higher preferred).
- Experience working in a school or educational setting.
- Strong organizational, communication, and data-management skills.
- Ability to work effectively with students, families, and staff from diverse backgrounds.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
- Bilingual (position requires frequent verbal communication with Spanish-speaking families; Spanish fluency is an essential function of the role).
- Knowledge of attendance laws, student confidentiality, and school compliance requirements
- Experience with attendance systems, student information systems, or MTSS frameworks.
- Experience in case management, family outreach, or community collaboration.
