Academic Services Officer I/II – College Success Coach

Wayne State University is searching for an experienced Academic Services Officer I/II – College Success Coach at its Detroit campus location. Essential

Functions
  • Monitor and report student progress using unit and university tracking and reporting systems.
  • Effectively engage students in broad discussions and associated goals and activities from initial college preparedness through career planning.
  • Intrusively monitor and support students using university systems, face‑to‑face sessions, small groups, or events and programs as appropriate.
  • Assist with departmental outreach, including student informational sessions, membership recruitment, and new student orientation.
  • Partner with unit leadership to design and execute tailored retention efforts across the assigned student group.
  • Communicate W360’s academic and non‑academic requirements, policies, and procedures effectively and accurately; maintain program‑related awareness.
  • Participate in unit and/or University committees; serve as liaison between W360 and college, schools, and other units within the University.
  • Work with the assigned student group and their academic advisers to encourage regular department advising engagement.
  • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with students, staff, and faculty at all times and avoid any behavior or relationship that could be perceived as in conflict with institutional policies and ethical standards regarding professional conduct and campus relationships.
  • Prepare written/oral weekly and semesterly reports.
  • Continuously develop knowledge of best practices, policies, procedures, technological tools, etc., concerning program population needs.
  • Perform duties as assigned by Sr. Director and Associate Director(s).
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Guidance Counseling, Psychology or related field.
  • Master’s degree required for Academic Services Officer II.
  • Experience with diverse and underrepresented student populations.
  • Ability to relate well and establish rapport with students, other staff, faculty, parents, and community.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students of varying levels of academic preparedness.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Ability to plan and manage small‑scale academic programming/projects.
  • Must be available to work evening and weekend hours as needed.
  • Ability to work with and without supervision and in consultation with experienced colleagues.

Preferred qualifications:

Experience in supporting students through intervention, academic recovery, and persistence.
