Wayne State University is searching for an experienced Academic Services Officer II/III, 50% - Infant Mental Health, Merrill Palmer Skillman Institute at its Detroit campus location.

The Infant Mental Health Program Coordinator is the main contact for the Infant Mental Health Dual-Title Degree Program at Merrill Palmer Skillman Institute. The coordinator meets with prospective and current students to ensure successful completion of the program and leads the Infant Mental Health seminar (a two-semester graduate level seminar required for all master’s level dual-title students). The coordinator also collaborates with infant mental health professionals in the community to ensure student success when in community-based practicum placements;
and to ensure that the dual-title program remains relevant to current practices and policies within the infant mental health field. In addition, the coordinator collaborates across campus to increase student enrollment in the program. The program coordinator collaborates with the Dual Title administrators and faculty to support the overall functioning of the training program.
- Instruct the 2-semester (SW 8883 and SW 8884) graduate level seminar in infant mental health. Meet weekly with trainees, discuss readings, conduct interactive reflective activities, respond and grade assignments, and work with other infant mental health program faculty for continuous improvement of seminar.
- Recruitment and program awareness. Attend campus events, student recruitment fairs, and off campus events and external organizations (e.g., Bachelors Social Work programs across Michigan, Association for Infant Mental Health meetings) to raise awareness about the training program to potential students and professionals.
- Tracking and documenting student progress. Advising incoming students of program expectations, completing course planning for all infant mental health dual title students, collaborate with students’ home programs and the graduate school to ensure successful completion of requirements, and working with students to address challenges to progress.
- Communicating with community supervisors. Collaborate with supervisors who train infant mental health dual title students during infant mental health practicum (in field settings). Helping supervisors integrate student assessments to field placements. Seek input from collaborators to ensure program standards and alignment with changes in the field and community needs.
- Develop, plan, and organize professional development programs to promote infant mental health including online training and programs.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Education:
Master’s Degree. Minimum master’s degree in a mental health field (e.g., social work, psychology). - Fully licensed in Michigan.
- Endorsed by Michigan Association for Infant Mental Health, IMH Specialist or Mentor.
- Discipline:
Mental Health Field - Experience:
Specialist (minimum 5 years of job-related experience). - At least 3 years’ experience with provision of supervision & reflective supervision/consultation.
- Experience working within IECMH (Infant & Early Childhood Mental Health) field in urban communities.
- Experience mentoring pre-service clinicians.
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Must have knowledge of and experience delivering Infant Mental Health assessments and intervention and experience working with and/or supervising students. Effective written and verbal communication skills are also required. Basic knowledge of Microsoft office software.
