Qualifications:
* Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with K-12 endorsement in Physical Education MB and Health - MA.
* Major or Minor in Specified Content Area (Minor must have passed the Specified Content Area - MTTC Test).
* Teaching experience in a multi-cultural setting.
* Demonstrated knowledge of multiple intervention strategies with individuals and groups.
* Familiar with Best Practice and Procedures for Physical Education to establish a quality Middle School Physical Education / Health Program.
* Experience with Mastery Learning / OBE Outcome strategies.
* Experience with technology and multimedia to enhance teaching, learning, and student engagement.
* Training and/or knowledge of Professional Learning Communities, preferred.
* Willingness to be actively involved in the school improvement process.
* Ability to work in a multicultural setting.
Responsibilities:
* Provide Physical Education and Healthy Living instruction to Middle School Students in Grades 6 - 8.
* Develop an appropriate PE / Healthy Living program that will expose students to a variety of age appropriate physical activities that will promote physical and mental growth and development.
* Set program goals / objectives to develop a quality Elementary School PE / Healthy Living Program that promotes healthy lifestyle choices, now and into the future.
* Develop lesson plans that support School Improvement Goals.
* Establishes a cooperative and supportive relationship with all students.
* Maintains a classroom atmosphere conducive to learning.
* Fosters and maintains positive / collaborative relationships with parents / guardians of students.
* Work collaboratively with the Elementary and High School PE Teachers to further develop and expand the District's PE / Health curriculum and program.
* Demonstrate and maintain "total school and community" awareness in working with students, parents, administration, teaching staff and community members.
* Collaborates with school personnel, parents and district PE / Health staff for the purpose of improving the quality of student outcomes, developing solutions and planning curriculum.
* Prepares teaching materials and reports (e.g. grades, attendance, anecdotal records, etc.) for the purpose of implementing lesson plans and providing documentation of teacher and student progress.
* Monitor student progress, adjust and provide accommodations to curriculum and instruction to support academic achievement.
* Effectively uses multiple forms of assessment and progress data to plan and guide instruction and to inform the learner of their growth.
* Completes and maintains student attendance, academic records / gradebook, documentation and record keeping in accordance with District policies and procedures.
* Ability to manage student behavior to maximize engagement in learning.
* Ability to apply knowledge of PBIS best practices to meet student needs.
* Ability to effectively communicate, coordinate and collaborate with Departmental colleagues, ancillary staff, Administration, parents, and building staff.
* Function as a collaborative and contributing team member within the school staff.
* Work to further develop the Physical Education / Health curriculum and program and seek innovative, engaging and motivating instructional approaches.
* Manage equipment / inventory in the PE classroom.
* Contributes and participates in efforts related to building and District Goals.
* Perform other duties as may be related to the position.
