Salary: Salary Schedule #1 for certified teachers ($55,000-$94,000). Salary Schedule #2 ($38,500- $73,083)

Position SummaryThe Day Trade Teacher offers rigorous curriculum in a specialized trade aligned with the State of Michigan Common Core guidelines while upholding the mission, vision and values of the Detroit Public Schools Community District. Collaborates with families and other staff members to ensure academic success of students. Evaluates and monitors students’ progress on a periodic basis.
Minimum Qualifications- Candidate must have a minimum of four (4) years or 8,000 hours of work experience and extensive knowledge-base of the Mechatronics industry. Must be able to verify a minimum of four (4) years of recent and relevant occupational experience in the field of Mechatronics. The experience must be within six (6) years of application. Competency‑based curriculum development experience desired. The right candidate must be student‑focused and foster a positive student‑learning environment.
- Valid Vocational Teaching Certificate, Interim Occupation Education Certificate, Full Vocational Authorization, or Occupation Education Teaching Certificate with appropriate endorsement for vocational curriculum area required.
- Creation/implementation of curriculum and lesson plan preparation.
- Complete, proper, and accurate recording of student paperwork.
- Comply with DPSCD/State mandates for high‑school students. Develop curricula, instruct students in a classroom setting in ground‑school classes on the basics of the vocational content.
- Develop instructional modules to include a broad range of topics such as operation procedures and trade systems.
- Determine student proficiency, report on student progress, and develop new teaching methods that help prepare for the written test they can expect to face when applying for their license.
- Provide practical training relevant to areas covered during theory lessons.
- Design and utilize training manuals, equipment, course materials and other supporting materials to provide instruction as per applicable policies and procedures.
- Organize and conduct cockpit familiarization classes and prepare reports on student’s proficiency based on established parameters.
- Maintain student progress report and provide special coaching and counseling for students.
- Develop innovative techniques, training aids and methods to improve training efficiency.
- Provide expertise knowledge to instructional system designers and develop classroom materials, lessons, instructor and student guides and other training materials.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
