OverviewNew Paradigm For Education (NPFE) is a nonprofit Charter Management Organization serving 2,100 students in Detroit, Michigan. NPFE maximizes student learning potential through proven practices and manages all phases of school design, planning, and program implementation. NPFE seeks culturally responsive educators who believe all students can succeed and who have strong relationship‑building skills.
Responsibilities- Develop and maintain high‑quality academic‑focused instruction for all students using a high‑quality curriculum, strong instructional practices, culturally responsive teaching, and effective classroom management.
- Build strong and lasting relationships with students and families; identify and apply best practices in instruction and student achievement; continuously seek growth through feedback.
- Planning and preparation: possess knowledge of middle‑school pedagogy and Social Studies; write and implement lesson plans grounded in curriculum and backed by constructive feedback; use up‑to‑date data to monitor progress; integrate content knowledge and best practices; set measurable instructional goals; design coherent instruction reflecting network curriculum.
- Instruction: use questioning and discussion techniques to promote participation; engage students to maximize comprehension; provide accurate, constructive feedback to students, parents and other professionals; adapt lessons flexibly; assess learning using instructional goals; communicate assessment criteria; use assessment data to plan; assist the Special Educator in IEP development; assess lesson effectiveness and modify for future.
- Learning environment: provide a safe learning environment and maintain respect and rapport; establish a culture of high expectations; manage classroom procedures efficiently; ensure productive use of instructional assistants and volunteers; demonstrate knowledge of students’ intellectual, social, emotional, and cultural contexts.
- Family engagement and collaboration: solicit and utilize constructive feedback from administrators and coaches; work in teams to plan and problem‑solve; develop family‑school relationships; encourage parent/guardian participation; engage families through training, conferences, technology; build community relationships; perform ancillary duties as needed.
Job Requirements
- Must possess a Bachelor’s degree, preferably in education or Social Studies.
- Must have—or be on a path to—a valid Michigan Teaching Certificate.
- Prior classroom experience in Middle School highly preferred.
- Strong commitment to, belief in, and alignment with the school’s mission and goals.
- Demonstrated ability to develop a positive, achievement‑oriented, culturally responsive, supportive, and collaborative culture of high expectations.
- Relentless belief that all students, regardless of race or economic status, deserve a quality education and can attain postsecondary success.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and relationship‑building skills with children and adults.
Applicants must hold valid certification to receive pay within the posted salary range. Those actively pursuing certification may be considered for a similar role within an adjusted salary range.
