The Opportunity:
A child's first three years shape everything that follows and for Detroit's infants and toddlers with developmental delays, early intervention changes the trajectory. The ESE Supervisor
- Early Intervention & Early On leads that work for Detroit Public Schools Community District (DPSCD), ensuring that infants and toddlers from birth to 36 months who have, or are at risk of, developmental delay are identified, served, and supported in compliance with Part C of IDEA and Michigan Mandatory Special Education (MMSE).
Based at the Early Intervention Diagnostic Center, you will provide direct supervision, support, and coaching to Early Intervention (MMSE) staff to ensure high-quality implementation of the primary service provider model. You will oversee the day-to-day operations of the Center, ensure IFSPs and IEPs are developed and implemented on time, engage families as partners, and represent DPSCD in Wayne County RESA Act 18 collaboratives.
Reporting to the ESE Lead Administrator for Early Childhood, you will be a key leader in the District's birth-to-three system.
You are an Exceptional Student Education leader with deep knowledge of early childhood development and compliance, strong coaching instincts, and a data-driven approach to program quality. You build positive relationships with staff and families, handle sensitive matters with integrity and confidentiality, and stay organized across many moving parts.
What Success Looks Like:
- Infants and toddlers from birth to 36 months with, or at risk of, developmental delay are identified early and served without delay.
- IFSPs and IEPs are developed and fully implemented on time, and transitions are smooth for children and families.
- Early Intervention staff are well-supervised, well-coached, and deliver high-quality services through the primary service provider model.
- Families are engaged as partners, and their questions and concerns are resolved promptly and respectfully.
- The Early Intervention Diagnostic Center runs smoothly, and program data show strong compliance and measurable student progress.
- DPSCD meets its federal, state, and Wayne County RESA Act 18 obligations, and complaints or compliance issues are prevented or resolved quickly.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Must possess a master's degree or higher with a full approval in at least one special education area.
- Three years of successful experience in special education.
- Must hold (or be eligible) for a full or temporary approval by the State Department of Education as a Special Education Supervisor upon completion/verification of enrollment in the supervisor of special education program from a college or university approved by the state board of education for preparation of special education supervisors.
- Must present evidence of a minimum of five (5) years successful teaching experience, three (3) of which must be as a teacher or teacher consultant in a state-approved special education program.
- Preferred work experience in Special Education Early On/Early Intervention programs, including experience in General Education/Special Education curriculum and staff development.
