Position SummaryIn accordance with the Agreement between the Organization of School Administrators and supervisors and the Detroit Public School Community District the following vacancy is announced:
The Curriculum Leader of K-8 Mathematics will support Tier I, II and III instruction, teacher training, and instructional coaching in the District's core and supplemental curriculum programming. Reporting to the Senior Director of K-8 Mathematics, this role supports the implementation of the District's academic strategy by providing teachers, lead teachers, Academic Interventionists, and school-based staff training on the District's standards-based curricula, aligned with the Vision of Excellent Instruction and Tactical Improvement Plan (TIP) goals.
Responsibilities also include developing implementation tools and guidance, partnering with Instructional Leadership Teams (ILTs), coordinating implementation of the District's K-8 Mathematics Intervention and grades 6-8 Mathematics Virtual Tutoring programs, and communicating progress to the School Support Team (SST).
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Leadership, or related field.
- Master's degree preferred.
- Valid Michigan Teacher Certificate in related content area highly preferred.
- Valid State of Michigan Administrator Certificate highly preferred.
- Minimum five years of successful teaching experience.
- Proven experience with teacher development, training, and curriculum development.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize appropriately.
- Ability to work independently.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Proven organizational skills, high attention to details, and superior time management.
- Fluency with using digital tools including Microsoft Office and SharePoint.
- Ability to work effectively with District and school leaders.
- Ability to manage, monitor, and ensure the integrity of instructional programs and core instructional materials implementation, using student data to drive coaching and support.
- Growth mindset, with commitment to ongoing learning and willingness to be flexible to meet evolving educator needs.
- Support school-based staff in implementing effective Tier II and III interventions through coaching cycles, lesson modeling, and targeted professional development.
- Build the capacity of teachers, Academic Interventionists, and school leaders to analyze and respond to student data from formative and summative standards-aligned assessments through targeted coaching.
- Coach teachers and Academic Interventionists in planning, lesson delivery, and refining small group instruction through actionable feedback.
- Draft written guidance for intervention-related initiatives, and coordinate with district vendors, when necessary, to design, monitor, and co-facilitate professional development workshops for staff that address students' unfinished learning and support learning acceleration.
- Gather and analyze data to evaluate the effectiveness of Mathematics intervention programs, including K-8 Academic Interventionist support and grades 6-8 high dosage virtual tutoring, and propose refinements to strategy, materials, and professional learning as a result.
- Contribute to advancing schools' Tactical Improvement Plan (TIP) goals within the scope of K-8 Mathematics intervention, communicating trends in implementation quality, action plans, and next steps to school-level Instructional Leadership Teams, the Senior Director of K-8 Mathematics, and cohort-leader Assistant Superintendents.
