School Counselor

U of D Jesuit is seeking an outstanding full-time School Counselor. This position will predominantly work with Academy students (grades 7-8) while also supporting high school students as needed/required. Candidates should desire to provide all students with equitable access to a quality and developmentally appropriate and comprehensive guidance counseling program that focuses on academic success and social development.

A school counselor at U of D Jesuit is part of a team of counselors, faculty, staff, and parents who help each student become self- actualized, confident in his own goodness and inner processes. School counselors are required to develop a healthy integration between self and self-concept, and grow mentally, spiritually, emotionally, and socially. As the primary counselor for the Jesuit Academy, the successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to follow the Jesuit/Ignatian mandate of creating methods that will assist in forming students into persons who seek justice with the focus of forming men for others.

Full-time, Exempt, 10-month

• Master’s degree in School Counseling, Counseling, Social Work, or related field
• Valid school counseling license/certification (e.g., Michigan Teaching Certificate with a Guidance Counselor [NT] Endorsement, School Guidance Counselor License issued by the Michigan Department of Education [MDE]).
• Minimum of three years’ experience in a middle or high school setting.
• Ability to build trusting relationships with students, parents, faculty, and staff.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal abilities; strong collaboration skills.
• Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise professional discretion.
• Experience with student support plans, behavioral interventions, and crisis response.
• Proficiency in Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, and student information systems.
• Strong skills in counseling techniques, group facilitation, and crisis management.
• Commitment to student success and wellbeing.
• Willingness to complete background checks/fingerprinting.
