In accordance with the Agreement between the Organization of School Administrators and supervisors and the Detroit Public School Community District the following vacancy is announced:
The Curriculum Leader of K-8 Literacy will support instruction, teacher training, and instructional coaching in the District’s program for K-8 Literacy. The Curriculum Leader will report to the Senior Director of K-8 Literacy to implement the District's academic support strategy by providing teachers, teacher leaders, and school-based staff training on implementing the District's standards-based curricula, aligned with the Vision of Excellent Instruction and Tactical Improvement Plan (TIP) goals.
This will include designing and delivering District-wide professional development, implementing structured coaching plans and cycles, and supporting teachers and school-based staff to analyze and act upon student assessment data to monitor instructional growth. Curriculum leaders may also serve in an administrative capacity including supervision and evaluation of team members where appropriate.
- Bachelor's degree in Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Leadership, or related field;
Master's degree preferred. - Valid Michigan Teacher Certificate.
- Minimum five years of successful teaching experience
- Proven experience with teacher development, training, and curriculum development.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize appropriately
- Ability to work independently
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Proven organization skills, high attention to details, and superior time management
- Fluency with using digital tools including Microsoft Office and Share Point
- Ability to work effectively with District and school leaders
- Ability to manage, monitor, and ensure the integrity of instructional programs and core instructional materials implementation, using student data to drive coaching and support
- Growth mindset, with commitment to ongoing learning and willingness to be flexible to meet evolving educator needs
- Design and develop professional learning for teachers and school-based staff in alignment with the District's strategy and Vision of Excellent Instruction.
- Support school-based staff to implement strong Tier 1 instruction and interventions through ongoing teacher coaching cycles, lesson modeling, and targeted professional development.
- Develop and execute professional development designed to assist teachers with analyzing and acting upon student data from formative and summative standards-aligned assessments.
- Monitor and review existing professional development programs to ensure they are aligned with instructional needs.
- Draft written guidance for curriculum initiatives and develop corresponding professional learning to support successful initiative implementation.
- Coordinate with professional development partners to enhance and support professional development workshops provided by district vendors.
- Ensure compliance with district policies and protocols related to professional development and curriculum initiatives by maintaining thorough and accurate records of teacher professional development session attendance.
- Develop individualized coaching plans for teachers that address instructional strengths and areas for growth, aligned with the Vision of Excellent Instruction and District improvement goals.
- Implement structured coaching cycles including pre-conferences, observations, written coaching plans, and post-conferences.
- Maintain accurate and updated school support logs for a caseload of schools that outline the frequency and type of school support by teacher and school.
