In accordance with the Agreement between Detroit Federation of Teachers (DFT) and the Board of Education of the School District of the City of Detroit, the following vacancy is announced.
Position SummaryThe Special Instructor assists the Day Trade Teacher with instructional tasks assigned to individual students or small groups of students in-classroom. The Special Instructor observes student performance and assist in the implementation of appropriate instructional activities planned by the Day Trade Teacher. The Special Instructor assistance enables teachers
¿ capacity to effectively implement identified core or universal instructional practices for individual students or small groups of students.
- High School Diploma or GED Certificate.
- Two (2) years or 4000 hours of related work experience in the vocational content of the teaching assignment.
- Candidate must be able to work with high school aged youth on foundations in the vocational content of the teaching assignment.
- Entry-level problem-solving skills are a must, with strong technical aptitude.
- Assist students with the reading and comprehension of terms/technical language associated with the vocational content field.
- Adheres to school policies and procedures, and the direction of and response to administrative supervision.
- Instructs students in the area of the vocational content field.
- Works individually with students in learning safety rules and regulations while using printing hardware.
- Reviews material with students prior to assessments.
- Enforces classroom policies and maintains discipline through effective classroom management techniques.
- Supports Day Trade Teacher in daily record‑keeping of attendance and grades.
- Presents subject matter to students in a variety of methods and techniques, such as lectures, small-groups and demonstrations.
- Seeks out and participates in professional development and training.
- Utilizes the community as a learning resource and as an extension of the classroom for students.
- Must be physically able to perform the duties and responsibilities outlined with or without accommodations.
- Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
