Certified Middle School Music Teacher (26‑27 School Year)
New Paradigm For Education (NPFE) is a non‑profit Charter Management Organization that serves 2,100 students in Detroit, Michigan. NPFE seeks culturally responsive educators committed to student achievement and who thrive in a rigorous, supportive environment. The position is full‑time, entry‑level (0‑2 years of experience).
ResponsibilitiesDevelop and maintain high‑quality academic‑focused instruction for all students using a proven curriculum, strong instructional practices, culturally responsive teaching, and effective classroom management. Build lasting relationships with students and families, identify best practices, and continuously seek growth.
Planning and Preparation- Possess and implement knowledge of middle school pedagogy and music.
- Write and implement lesson plans grounded in the curriculum, incorporating constructive feedback.
- Use up‑to‑date data to monitor student progress and inform instructional choices.
- Integrate content knowledge and best practices to create coherent instruction.
- Set measurable instructional goals for diverse students.
- Design coherent instruction with activities, materials, resources, and instructional groups.
- Use questioning and discussion techniques to promote student participation.
- Engage students to maximize comprehension through activities and pacing.
- Provide accurate, specific, and timely feedback to students, parents, and other professionals.
- Adjust lessons adaptively to meet student needs.
- Assess learning against goals, communicate assessment criteria, and use results for planning.
- Support the Special Educator in developing standards‑based IEPs for qualifying students.
- Assess lesson effectiveness and modify plans for future instruction.
- Create a safe and respectful environment for all students.
- Establish a culture of high expectations and pride in high‑quality work.
- Efficiently manage classroom procedures, transitions, materials, and non‑instructional duties.
- Utilize instructional assistants and volunteers effectively.
- Demonstrate understanding of students’ social, emotional, and cultural contexts.
- Solicit and use constructive feedback from administrators and instructional coaches.
- Collaborate in teams to plan problem‑solving and support one another daily.
- Develop family‑school relationships that foster academic and social development.
- Encourage parent/guardian participation through meetings, nights, conferences, and technology.
- Connect with community resources to support student achievement.
- Perform additional duties as needed.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in education or music.
- Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate (or on path to obtaining one).
- Prior classroom experience is highly preferred.
- Strong commitment to, and alignment with, NPFE’s mission and goals.
- Demonstrable ability to build a positive, culturally responsive, collaborative culture of high expectations.
- Belief in equitable education and postsecondary success for all students.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and relationship‑building skills with students, parents, and colleagues.
