The Academic Coordinator for the Jacob Scholars Program coordinatesacademic support, student success, and recruitment activities for undergraduate Jacob Scholars in the Wayne State University Collegeof Nursing. The primary focus of the position is supporting the academic success, retention, and progression of Jacob Scholars through tutoring, Supplemental Instruction, group study, academic monitoring, and early intervention.
The Academic Coordinator works collaboratively with faculty, academic advisors, the Academic Success Center, and Jacob Scholars Program leadership to coordinate student support services and monitor program outcomes. The position also supports recruitment and outreach efforts to build a pipeline of prospective studentsinto the Jacob Scholars Program, with approximately 30% of the position dedicated to recruitment activities. Occasional evening and weekend hours may be required for student programming, tutoring, recruitment, and program events.
Academic Support and Student Success – Approximately 70%
- Coordinate year-round academic support services for Jacob Scholars, including tutoring, study groups, Supplemental Instruction, academic skills workshops, and pre-semesterpreparation activities in collaboration with the Academic Success Center.
- Recruit, onboard, train, schedule, and supervise peer tutorsand student assistants; maintain appropriate hiring, training,scheduling, and employment documentation.
- Monitor student academic progress and engagement, identify students who may benefit from additional support, and collaborate with faculty, advisors, and program leadership to coordinate earlyintervention strategies.
- Collaborate with faculty and the Academic Success Center to ensure tutoring, Supplemental Instruction, and other academicsupport activities align with course objectives and identifiedstudent needs.
- Coordinate tutoring schedules, student communications, academic support materials, workshops, and other resources designed to promote student success, retention, and progression.
- Track student participation, academic performance, tutoring utilization, and other program outcomes; prepare reports and use data and student feedback to support continuous program improvement.
- Maintain accurate and confidential student and program records in accordance with university policies.
- Support Jacob Scholars Program activities, assessment, events,and special initiatives and collaborate with the Director of Jacob Scholars, College of Nursing faculty and staff, universitypartners, and foundation stakeholders as needed.
Recruitment and Outreach – Approximately 30%
- Coordinate recruitment and outreach activities for the Jacob Scholars Program, including visits to local high schools, collegefairs, information sessions, community events, and otherprospective student activities.
- Promote the Jacob Scholars Program and Wayne State University College of Nursing BSN programs to prospective students and families and provide information about program opportunities,eligibility, academic expectations, and available student support.
- Develop and maintain relationships with high school counselors,teachers, administrators, and community partners to increaseawareness of the Jacob Scholars Program and strengthen the prospective student pipeline.
- Conduct follow-up outreach with prospective students and collaborate with College of Nursing recruitment, admissions, and advisencing staff to support students through the recruitment and enrollment process; maintain records and track recruitment activities and outcomes.
