Wayne State University is searching for an experienced Open-rank Tenure-track Faculty Position - AI in Health and Medicine at its Detroit campus location.

Located in Midtown Detroit, the Department of Computer Science in the James and Patricia Anderson College of Engineering at Wayne State University (WSU) invites applications for an open-rank tenure-track faculty position in Artificial Intelligence, with particular emphasis on applications in Health and Medicine, beginning in Fall 2027.

We seek candidates conducting innovative research in areas such as machine learning, generative AI, multimodal AI, computer vision, natural language processing, trustworthy and responsible AI, AI agents, and data-driven intelligent systems, with applications to healthcare, biomedical research, clinical decision support, digital health, or related areas.

The successful candidate will find substantial opportunities for translational collaboration. Wayne State's Detroit campus places the department alongside the WSU School of Medicine, the Karmanos Cancer Institute, and the Integrative Biosciences Center (IBio), within a metropolitan region served by several major health systems.

The Department of Computer Science at Wayne State has 25 tenure-track faculty and 8 teaching faculty, with 6 NSF CAREER awards and over $2.5M in annual research expenditure. The Department offers two B.S. degree programs, several M.S. degree programs (traditional and online), including an M.S. in AI, and a Ph.D. in Computer Science. Currently, we have approximately 718 undergraduate students, 105 M.S., and
56 Ph.D. students.

Offers of employment by WSU may be subject to approval by the University's Board of Trustees and are made contingent upon the candidate's successful completion of any criminal background checks and other pre-employment assessments that may be required for the position being offered. Candidates should hold a Ph.D. in Computer Science or a closely related field and demonstrate a strong potential for excellence in both research and teaching. Candidates at the associate or full professor level should have an established, externally funded research program and a record of scholarly leadership.
