We are currently seeking a Project Engineer, Conveyors for a client in the automotive industry, specializing in car manufacturing. This is a contract position located in Detroit, MI / Toledo, OH / Belvidere, IL / Columbia, SC, requiring on-site presence. PURPOSE:We are seeking an experienced Project Engineer – Conveyors to join our Production Solutions team. The ideal candidate brings hands‑on experience in the design and engineering of conveyor systems for automotive manufacturing environments and will play a key role in delivering high‑quality technical solutions across the full project lifecycle.
RESPONSIBILITIES:- Perform the design and engineering of conveyor systems for automotive manufacturing customers
- Conduct engineering calculations including stress analysis, load capacity, and system integrity
- Generate Bills of Materials (BOMs), work orders, and supporting documentation for manufacturing and procurement
- Review and check drawings, validate designs, and ensure all deliverables meet project specifications and engineering standards
- Provide technical support to manufacturing, installation, and maintenance teams throughout the project lifecycle
- Support troubleshooting and resolution of technical issues related to conveyor design and functionality
- Perform other general engineering tasks as required
- Willingness to travel up to 25% domestically and internationally
- BA/BS degree in Mechanical Engineering strongly preferred (BSME)
- Equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience will be considered
- Minimum 5+ years of engineering experience, preferably in automotive manufacturing or conveyor systems
- Strong experience with AutoCAD and/or Autodesk Inventor
- Proven ability to identify and resolve technical issues related to conveyor design and performance
- Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Automotive industry experience is required
SKILLS:
- Hands‑on experience with automotive manufacturing conveyor systems
- Experience supporting manufacturing, installation, and field implementation activities
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross‑functional and project teams
- Familiarity with production equipment, plant environments, and installation processes
- Work is normally performed in an office, laboratory, manufacturing floor, or machine shop setting where physical work includes, but is not limited to sitting, standing, reaching, kneeling, bending, and lifting up to 25 lbs.
- Must be able to understand and comply with all relevant safety practices.
