Construction Engineer

POSITION SUMMARY

This position is for a full-time Construction Engineer in our Construction Services Group with office locations in Saginaw, St. Johns, East Lansing, Dundee, and Bingham Farms.

• Acts as client, contractor, and project manager liaison for municipal and MDOT infrastructure projects.
• Observes construction work to ensure conformance with specifications and maintains detailed records of contractor work.
• Communicates directly with clients and owners, holds meetings, reviews shop drawings, performs quantity take‑offs, and generates preliminary cost estimates.
• Performs office technician duties such as reviewing certified payrolls, ensuring IDR compliance, and generating pay estimates and contract modifications.
• Has familiarity with MDOT specifications, standard plans, and work practices.
• Conducts material testing related to grout inspection, HMA sampling, concrete sampling and testing, aggregate sampling, mechanical testing of aggregates, and compaction testing for granular, aggregate, clay, and HMA materials.

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
• E.I.T. or P.E., a plus.
• Construction inspection experience, preferably in municipal infrastructure, MDOT road, and bridge construction.
• Valid driver’s license.
