Engineer Technician

Inside the Role

The performance operations technician is responsible for running multiple test cells at peak efficiency, ensuring the data quality meets the expectations of the engineering customer. The role encompasses setting up medium and heavy‑duty diesel engines, their components, and exhaust after‑treatment systems, performing engine mechanical assembly and disassembly, completing any required fabrication work, and identifying and troubleshooting test cell problems.

• Keep the test cells running at peak efficiency and produce quality data for the engineering customer.
• Set up engines, components, and exhaust after‑treatment systems.
• Perform engine mechanical assembly/disassembly and necessary fabrication.
• Identify and troubleshoot test cell issues.

• Effective organizational and follow‑up skills.
• Ability to complete tasks autonomously with minimal supervision.
• Strong mechanical and hand‑tool skills.
• Strong computer skills (accessing service literature, MS365).
• Strong interpersonal and oral communication skills.
• Understanding of internal combustion engine principles.
• Ability to interpret electrical circuit diagrams (DMM usage, voltage, current, resistance).
• Familiarity with testing measurement instrumentation and sensors.
• HV battery live work/repair experience.
• Axle assembly/repair experience.
• Fabrication/Welding experience (MIG, TIG).
• CDL “A” License holder.
• NVH testing familiarity.
• PID Loop Controller experience.
• Active pursuit of a technical bachelor’s or associate’s degree (NATEF or ABET accredited).
• Engine and/or chassis dynamometer testing certificate.

• Experience with alternative powertrain systems (Hybrid, BEV, fuel cell, e‑Motors, HV systems).
• ASE or State Mechanic certifications (minimum 1 in diesel, electrical, Hybrid, engine repair, transmission/driveline) or OEM service training equivalent.
• Active pursuit of a technical bachelor’s or associate’s degree (NATEF or ABET accredited).
• Knowledge in engine testing and mechanical engine assembly/disassembly.

• Salary range: $50,000 – $94,000.
