Reporting to the Quality Manager, the Supplier Quality Engineer plans and directs activities concerned with development, application, and maintenance of the quality operation system (QOS) for manufacturing processes, materials, and products. A strong focus on eliminating quality process failures using solid preventive measures, corrective action plans and use of mistake proofing. Work with supply base to ensure they are producing quality products on time.

Accountabilities And Responsibilities
  • Core Ford quality experience as a Tier 1 supplier
  • Support and actively participate in the APQP process for new product launch.
  • Lead supplier problem-solving activities and continuous improvement efforts as it relates to customer satisfaction and quality improvement.
  • Support ISO/IATF guidelines, audits, and other initiatives.
  • Support core tool development with suppliers (APQP, MSA, SPC, FMEA, Control Plan) for PPAP and other continual improvement opportunities.
  • Manage the supplier PPAP approval, Alert/Deviation Authorization, and SREA processes.
  • Create and manage the Quality Alert process as it relates to supplier quality.
  • Develop and initiate standards and methods for inspection, testing, and evaluation.
  • Core process capability and Gage R&R, and SPC knowledge.
  • Demonstrated OPEX experience, e.g., scrap reduction and efficiency gains.
  • Provide onsite support at Customer/Supplier site to investigate and/or address Quality concerns, as required.
  • Coordinate supplier and customer containment activities, and facilitate Return Material Analysis (RMA’s)
  • Support Layer Process Audit (LPA) guidelines.
  • Track and report monthly supplier quality performance for Warranty, Plant Rejects (PPM), Process Capability, Internal Concerns (C/1000’s) for the assemble products, NCTs
  • Team with fellow QEs and ASQEs on projects.
  • Other miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Education/Experience
  • A Bachelors’ degree is required - an engineering discipline is preferable.
  • Advanced degree preferred.
  • Extensive core Tier 1 automotive quality experience 5+ years.
  • Strong Ford experience required.
  • Strong supplier quality experience and core tools experience (APQP, MSA, SPC, FMEA, Control Plan).
  • Strong problem-solving experience: (Shainin and/or 6-Sigma level preferred, but not required).
  • Strong 8D experience required.
  • Lean manufacturing systems experience.
  • Strong project management experience (manage concerns, micro-projects, etc).
  • Large facility, high volume/mix, multi-product line experience.
  • Experience in launching programs.
  • Strong statistical analysis and development.
  • IATF experience.
  • CQE (trained) preferred.
  • CMQ/OE, preferred.
  • Certified Lead Auditor or Auditor experience is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel, Work, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Ability to lead and motivate teams
