Quality Engineer Automotive Parts Distributor

An international automotive parts distributor in the Detroit, MI area is looking for a Quality Engineer.

The ideal candidate would have at least 4 years of supplier or customer quality experience and interaction with automotive OEMs.

• Act as the main point of contact for customers on all quality-related topics
• Lead containment, investigation, and resolution of customer quality issues
• Respond to customer complaints and corrective action requests using structured methodologies (e.g., 8D, Red X)
• Prepare and present quality reports and updates to customers
• Support customer audits and ensure timely completion of follow-up actions
• Support APQP activities for new product launches and engineering changes
• Translate customer requirements (drawings, specifications, CSRs) into quality deliverables
• Participate in DFMEA and PFMEA development and ensure risk mitigation
• Define validation strategies including DVP&R and process capability (Cp/Cpk, Pp/Ppk)
• Support prototype, pilot, and pre-launch builds
• Prepare and submit PPAP documentation in compliance with customer and automotive standards
• Serve as a quality liaison with suppliers to ensure compliance with specifications and standards
• Conduct supplier audits and performance evaluations
• Drive supplier corrective actions and verify effectiveness
• Monitor supplier performance and lead continuous improvement initiatives
• Support implementation and maintenance of the ISO 9001 Quality Management System
• Participate in internal and external audits and corrective action follow-up
• Maintain and control quality documentation, procedures, and records
• Analyze quality data and KPIs to identify trends and improvement opportunities
• Lead root cause analysis and corrective/preventive action (CAPA) activities
• Collaborate cross-functionally to resolve quality issues and improve processes
• Support lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical field
• Minimum of 4 years of Quality Engineering experience in an automotive manufacturing environment
• Hands‑on experience with APQP, PPAP, Customer Quality, and Supplier Quality
• Working knowledge of ISO 9001 standards
• Familiarity with core automotive quality tools (FMEA, Control Plans, SPC, MSA)
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and quality systems
• This position includes manufacturing and office work environment. While performing the duties of this job you may be required to intermittently sit, stand, walk, lift up to 25 pounds, lift in excess of 25 pounds with a lift assist, climb stairs, use hands to handle or feel parts/equipment, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, bend at the waist, talk and hear.
