Systems Engineer, Electrical Engineering, Robotics
As a Senior Safety Process Engineer – Industrial Mobile Robotics Certification, you will play a critical role in ensuring our autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) meet the highest safety standards without compromising performance or flexibility. You’ll collaborate with System Safety Engineers to define and implement safety solutions across hardware and software systems. This role involves defining safety architecture, guiding certification efforts, and integrating safety requirements into the product development lifecycle.
You’ll work closely with Product Management, Program Management, System Safety, and Suppliers to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
This role involves defining safety architecture, guiding certification efforts, and integrating safety requirements into the product development lifecycle.
Responsibilities
- Lead safety architecture development for Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs), including functional safety requirements, hazard analysis, and safety concept definition across sensors, controllers, drives, and navigation systems.
- Provide technical guidance on wiring diagrams, architecture reviews, and prioritization of safety-critical requirements.
- Drive FMEA, FMEDA, and risk assessments at product, subsystem, and operational levels, influencing design decisions early in development cycles.
- Develop and execute system validation and verification strategies to meet safety targets (SIL/PL).
- Partner with cross‑functional engineering teams to ensure safety-by-design integration for navigation stacks (SLAM, fiducial, track-guided) and fleet‑level behaviors.
- Own the product-level safety certification process (e.g., ISO 3691‑4, ANSI B56.5, IEC 61508, ISO 13849), ensuring AMR platforms meet all regulatory, functional, and performance‑based safety requirements.
- Guide cross-functional teams on safety best practices and integration throughout the development lifecycle.
Qualifications
- Familiarity with AMR technologies including navigation systems, LiDAR, safety PLCs, fail-safe actuators, and safety-rated sensors.
- Professional experience with one or more of the following: UL (Underwriters Laboratories), ISO (International Organization for Standardization), ANSI (American National Standards Institute), RIA (Robotic Industries Association).
- 1+ year of experience in Functional/System Safety, or safety-rated circuit design.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to perform root cause analysis and implement quick resolutions.
- Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Math, Physics, or related field.
Preferred Skills
- 3+ years of experience in controls, diagnostics, or safety validation, including successful UL Certification for new products.
- Deep expertise in system safety standards and risk assessment methodologies (e.g., ISO 12100:2010, ISO 13849-1/2).
- Proficiency with safety tools and technologies such as Sistema, safety PLCs, HMIs, and diagnostic monitors.
- Strong background in electrical architecture design (high/low voltage), wiring diagram evaluation, and safety function implementation.
- Familiarity with continuous integration practices, machine learning, simulation methods, and data acquisition systems.
