Job Responsibilities
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering. Completion of some coursework in construction management is preferred.
- Three years of experience in designing and preparing specifications for civil engineering projects.
- One year of experience in civil engineering field work is preferred.
Special Requirements
Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Michigan required.

- Equipment and materials used in civil engineering projects.

- Michigan Department of Transportation's Field Manager software system.
- Federal Highway Administration rules and regulations.
- Analyzing problems relating to civil engineering design and construction.
- Supervising, prioritizing and directing the work of others.
- Reading, understanding and evaluating engineering plans and specifications.
- Oral and written communication.
- Use of personal computers and common office and work-related software.
- Preparing concise technical and non-technical reports.
- Plan and direct the activities of a small group of subordinate engineers and Drafting Technicians.
- Estimate costs and schedules for engineering projects.
- Interact effectively with subordinates and peers with tact and diplomacy.
- Display initiative and resourcefulness in solving difficult and unusual engineering problems in connection with problems of civil engineering design and construction methods.
