Senior Building Controls Technician

The Building People, LLC is hiring a full‑time Senior Building Controls Technician to design, program, and commission building automation systems for smart building infrastructure. The role requires independent work with limited supervision and includes programming of Direct Digital Control (DDC) hardware and software.

• Design and engineer control system hardware and software programming based on project plans, specifications, and other contract documents.
• Program projects of varying complexity.
• Perform network, database, and repair troubleshooting and programming.
• Collaborate with engineering on system configuration, network and software requirements, graphics, programming, and sequences of operations.
• Develop and configure sequences of operations, graphics, database, network, and integrations into third‑party systems.
• Maintain accurate and thorough project documentation and redlines.
• Provide owner training as required by the project.
• Execute system commissioning and functional testing.
• Assist in installation of control hardware.
• Startup and commission new hardware installations.
• Provide project management assistance and interface directly with customers.
• Supervise sub‑contractors and suppliers as needed.
• Educate lower‑level technicians through on‑the‑job training.

Travel:
Minimum 25% travel required.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

• Experience with electronics and basic electrical circuits.
• Thorough understanding of and ability to use appropriate tools.
• Excellent customer service and ability to work well with others.
• Knowledge of DDC Control Theory and Applications related to HVAC equipment.
• Strong knowledge of common DDC communication protocols such as BACnet, LON, Modbus, etc.

• At least 3 years of experience with programming, startup, and commissioning of control systems.
• Niagara N4 certification.
• Experience with multiple manufacturers of controls a plus.
• Technical knowledge of installation of controls equipment and ancillary devices.

• Physically able to climb overhead or crawl under spaces to complete jobs.
• Must be willing to work at heights.
• Must be able to lift up to 35 pounds at times.
