Join City Utilities as an Engineer III or IV in Natural Gas & Water. This role supports the planning, design, construction, and operation of critical utility infrastructure, ensuring safe and reliable service for the community.
Pay Details: Engineer III – Grade 58:
Minimum $1,618.87/week, Midpoint $2,023.60. Engineer IV – Grade 59:
Minimum $1,851.10/week, Midpoint $2,313.86.
Work Schedule: Monday‑Friday, 8:00am‑5:00pm.
Purpose of PositionEngineer III or IV – Natural Gas & Water. City Utilities seeks an experienced engineer to support planning, design, construction, and operation of natural gas and water service infrastructure.
What You’ll Do- Plan, design, and support natural gas and water distribution infrastructure projects.
- Prepare engineering studies, technical analyses, calculations, specifications, and cost estimates.
- Support construction, operations, maintenance, and system improvement initiatives.
- Manage capital improvement projects, including scope, budget, schedule, and contractor coordination.
- Develop, review, and approve engineering drawings and project documentation.
- Utilize AutoCAD and other engineering software to support project development and execution.
- Collaborate with operations personnel, contractors, consultants, developers, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders.
- Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and leadership to engineering staff.
- Engineer III: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline (ABET accredited required); minimum 4 years of applicable natural gas or water engineering design experience;
Professional Engineer (PE) license required. - Engineer IV: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline (ABET accredited required); minimum 8 years of natural gas or water engineering design experience;
Professional Engineer (PE) license required; demonstrated leadership and project management experience. - Strong communication, collaboration, and project coordination skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
- Interest in mentoring, technical leadership, and professional development of others.
- Experience with natural gas distribution and transmission system design.
- Knowledge of federal and state regulations applicable to the natural gas industry.
- Experience managing complex infrastructure or capital improvement projects.
- Work on projects that directly impact safety and reliability of essential community services.
- Collaborate with experienced utility professionals in a supportive team environment.
- Lead meaningful infrastructure improvements and long‑term system planning efforts.

Work is primarily performed in an office environment with occasional fieldwork in varying weather conditions.
