Chemist

Small family‑owned chemical manufacturer is seeking a bachelor’s degreed chemist who has experience with automotive coating formulation to join their organization and perform formulation as well as troubleshoot for customers. This is a great opportunity to join a growing group with opportunities for growth! Company covers 95% of benefit costs too!

Responsibilities
  • Work directly with the end user customer or OEM to develop and/or improve paint formulas to satisfy their needs
  • Meet with suppliers and screen raw materials to identify the best candidates to develop projects as well as raw materials offsets in times of scarcity
  • Responsible for product scale up / first time batches and resolution of processing issues faced by manufacturing and / or quality control
  • Assist the quality department with the investigation of customer complaints and the subsequent generation of corrective action
  • Conducts research on current manufactured products to improve product performance
  • Processes assigned LRs in an accurate and timely manner, professionally documenting work utilizing lab notebooks and the LR system
  • Paints parts / panels to be used for testing and/or demonstration purposes
  • Maintains, operates, and calibrates laboratory equipment and instruments
  • Assist in maintaining a professional, organized laboratory by keeping all laboratory equipment, fixtures, and common work areas clean and orderly
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Travel, domestic and international, can represent approximately 10% of the job
Salary

$70,000 - $80,000

Technical Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in polymers & coatings technology
  • Minimum of 1 year of industry experience formulating coating, or commensurate work experience
  • Experience must include bench work in a transportation coating laboratory environment
  • Valid operator / driver’s license and Passport
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in quality systems, with a focus on audits and root cause analysis
  • Strong knowledge of quality management systems (QMS) and relevant industry standards (e.g., ISO 9001)
  • Proficient in using quality tools and methodologies
  • Certified ISO 9001:2015 auditor
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite. Knowledge of SAP, Power BI, JMP a plus
  • Knowledge regarding coating + paint technology
  • Knowledge around Color Technology and Color Matching
  • Knowledge regarding paint test and application methods
  • DOE experience
  • Knowledge related to paint industry‑related regulatory requirement
  • Customer specifications & material approval processes
