Chemist
Small family‑owned chemical manufacturer is seeking a bachelor’s degreed chemist who has experience with automotive coating formulation to join their organization and perform formulation as well as troubleshoot for customers. This is a great opportunity to join a growing group with opportunities for growth! Company covers 95% of benefit costs too!
Responsibilities- Work directly with the end user customer or OEM to develop and/or improve paint formulas to satisfy their needs
- Meet with suppliers and screen raw materials to identify the best candidates to develop projects as well as raw materials offsets in times of scarcity
- Responsible for product scale up / first time batches and resolution of processing issues faced by manufacturing and / or quality control
- Assist the quality department with the investigation of customer complaints and the subsequent generation of corrective action
- Conducts research on current manufactured products to improve product performance
- Processes assigned LRs in an accurate and timely manner, professionally documenting work utilizing lab notebooks and the LR system
- Paints parts / panels to be used for testing and/or demonstration purposes
- Maintains, operates, and calibrates laboratory equipment and instruments
- Assist in maintaining a professional, organized laboratory by keeping all laboratory equipment, fixtures, and common work areas clean and orderly
- Other duties as assigned
- Travel, domestic and international, can represent approximately 10% of the job
$70,000 - $80,000

Technical Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in polymers & coatings technology
- Minimum of 1 year of industry experience formulating coating, or commensurate work experience
- Experience must include bench work in a transportation coating laboratory environment
- Valid operator / driver’s license and Passport
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in quality systems, with a focus on audits and root cause analysis
- Strong knowledge of quality management systems (QMS) and relevant industry standards (e.g., ISO 9001)
- Proficient in using quality tools and methodologies
- Certified ISO 9001:2015 auditor
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite. Knowledge of SAP, Power BI, JMP a plus
- Knowledge regarding coating + paint technology
- Knowledge around Color Technology and Color Matching
- Knowledge regarding paint test and application methods
- DOE experience
- Knowledge related to paint industry‑related regulatory requirement
- Customer specifications & material approval processes
