Manufacturing Engineer (Temporary) | Troy, MI
Applied Engineering, Inc. is seeking a motivated and hardworking individual to join our team in Troy, MI as a Manufacturing Engineer. This is a temporary role through September, though it may extend to November.
You will be part of a group of engineers dedicated to high-quality work, value-add solutions, skill development, and career growth.

Job SummaryAs a Manufacturing Engineer (Temporary) in Troy, MI
, you will:
- Develop and refine manufacturing processes for electrical and metal‑fabrication equipment, ensuring smooth production flow, reliable quality, and efficient use of resources
- Select, evaluate, and support machinery, tooling, and equipment, including performance optimization, troubleshooting, and maintenance planning
- Lead ongoing process‑improvement efforts by applying Lean, Six Sigma, and other structured methodologies to reduce waste and elevate productivity
- Create and maintain clear work instructions, standardized procedures, and process documentation to support consistent, safe, and high‑quality operations
- Partner with engineering teams during new product introduction to ensure designs are manufacturable, scalable, and aligned with DFMA principles
- Work closely with quality teams to build inspection plans, testing methods, and control strategies, and to resolve manufacturing‑related quality issues
- Provide hands‑on technical support to production teams, resolving issues quickly and implementing process adjustments to keep schedules on track
- Conduct cost analyses and drive cost‑reduction initiatives that improve operational efficiency without compromising safety or product performance
- Collaborate across production, engineering, procurement, and supply chain to align processes, communicate technical updates, and address cross‑functional needs
- Promote a strong safety culture by identifying risks, ensuring regulatory compliance, and integrating safe practices into all manufacturing activities
- Work collaboratively with suppliers and Applied partners
- Contribute to projects that impact communities in Pontiac, Farmington Hills, Dearborn, Livonia, or Southfield, and the greater Detroit metro area
- Apply your skills in a dynamic environment that values ownership and innovation
- Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Manufacturing engineering
- 3+ years of previous manufacturing experience with exposure to metal fabrication, electrical systems, and electro‑mechanical assembly
- Skilled in supporting production teams directly, including hands‑on troubleshooting and process adjustments on the shop floor
- Proficient in Lean, Six Sigma, and structured continuous‑improvement methodologies
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities, including data interpretation, root‑cause identification, and corrective‑action implementation
- Familiar with quality tools such as process controls, structured problem‑solving, and risk‑assessment methods (e.g., FMEA)
- Effective communicator who collaborates well with cross‑functional teams and stakeholders at all levels
- Capable of managing multiple priorities, coordinating tasks, and meeting deadlines in a fast‑moving environment
- Knowledgeable in manufacturing safety standards and committed to maintaining a safe working environment
- Bilingual in English and Spanish
- Adaptable and comfortable working in high‑growth, rapidly evolving production settings
- Capable of working independently and as a team member
- Strong work ethic and unwavering integrity
