Senior Roadway Engineer & Detroit Metro Transportation Lead

The Mannik & Smith Group (MSG) is expanding its Transportation Team in Michigan and seeks a Senior Roadway Engineer & Detroit Metro Transportation Lead to drive roadway and utility design projects in a fully 3D digital environment
. The role includes supervisory responsibilities overseeing a team of seven designers and offers significant professional growth.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the preparation of roadway design plans and 3D models for local agency projects
  • Perform and review design calculations to ensure accuracy and compliance
  • Prepare design packages for milestone client submittals, including estimates, special provisions, and RID packages
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior staff, fostering a collaborative and high‑performing team
  • Support MDOT projects as needed, applying similar expertise and leadership
  • Oversee and manage a team of seven designers
    , ensuring successful project delivery and professional development
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering
  • 12‑15 years of experience working with MDOT transportation and Local Agency
  • Michigan PE with the ability to become registered in other states
  • Knowledge of Open Roads ORD design software is required;
    AutoCAD/Civil3D is a plus
  • Experience serving as a PM
  • Desire and ability to manage a team
