The Mechanical Reliability Engineer position supports the refinery's Maintenance Department by identifying and developing equipment-related improvements. These improvements include root cause failure analysis and optimization of maintenance programs for rotating equipment (pumps, compressors, etc.) and fixed equipment (pressure vessels, heat exchangers, piping systems, etc.). The role also involves budgeting for planned equipment replacements, troubleshooting existing issues, implementing new solutions, and creating reliability programs focused on longer run times and safer operations.
The position requires significant teamwork, collaboration, and communication across all refinery departments, as well as with various corporate entities.
- Provides technical assistance/troubleshooting assistance in resolving equipment design, operation, and maintenance problems for all rotating and/or fixed equipment located within all assigned area teams; contacts internal and external experts as required.
- Utilizes reliability tools such as reliability analytics, failure evaluations, and cost analysis to improve reliability of rotating and/or fixed equipment systems.
- Writes PRFs for reliability improvement projects, equipment upgrades, etc. including financial justification (life cycle cost analysis) and facilitates DSP development. Champions MOC as appropriate.
- Reviews turnaround work lists and scopes for critical equipment.
- Helps establish equipment monitoring plans and control limits.
- Ensures equipment repairs meet or exceed OEM specifications.
- Conducts post-audits to measure the effectiveness of significant reliability related projects and activities.
- Provides technical assistance to aid decision-making on repair solutions during turnarounds and unplanned equipment outages.
- Reviews corporate specifications for potential improvement based on industry and site-specific experience as appropriate.
- Provides technical expertise and support to capital project development.
- Commit to continuous improvement through innovation and mentoring of others.
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering required.
- Two (2) years or more of experience required.
- Driver's license required.
- Strong interpersonal, leadership, and collaboration skills are essential.
- Effective communication skills are required to mentor others and build consensus across the refinery.
