Inside the Role
Uses computer-aided engineering (CAE) to solve complex vehicle design problems such as finite element analysis (FEA), computational fluid dynamics (CFD), multi-body simulation (MBS), and 1D dynamics/systems modeling. Applies highly specialized skill‑sets to correctly apply complex physics and science to develop engineering solutions. Areas of applications include vehicle durability, handling, safety, aerodynamics, thermal management, fuel efficiency, mechantronics/controls development, and general vehicle performance.
Supports design engineers to ensure their designs meet performance targets prior to physical validation. Understands design problems and defines the appropriate physics models and load cases. Accurately solves the analyses and presents results to guide design solutions with analysis‑based recommendations.
Position offers a salary range of $78,000 to $100,000 USD
Pay offered dependent on knowledge, skills, and experience.
Benefits include annual bonus program; 401(k) company contribution with company match up to 6% and non‑elective company contribution of 3–7% depending on age; starting at 4 weeks paid vacation; 13+ calendar holidays; 8 weeks paid parental leave; employee assistance program; comprehensive healthcare plans and wellness programs; onsite fitness (at some locations); tuition assistance and volunteer paid time off; short‑term and long‑term disability plans.
WhatYou Drive at DTNA Project Planning
- Understand project scope, targets, and deliverables.
- Work with design and test colleagues to ensure DVP&R (design, validation, plan and report) requirements are fulfilled.
- Construct FE models that properly capture the applicable information required for a specific project.
- This will include considerations for analysis method, applicable loading, and required testing.
- Perform FE analyses on our high‑performance computing cluster.
- Ensure that simulations solve correctly, meet solution accuracy targets, and correct loads are used.
- Post‑process FE results and compare them to program design targets.
- Results typically include durability performance of structural components and systems.
- Make recommendations for improvement.
- Prepare PowerPoint reports of the results and present results to design teams.
- Validation testing typically follows analysis in product design.
- Support product testing by working with test colleagues.
- Review analysis results and make recommendations for testing.
