Sales Engineer – Building Automation & Controls
Location: Clinton Township, MI
Compensation: $100,000 - $120,000 Base Salary + Uncapped Commission
Schedule: Full-Time
About the OpportunityOur client is seeking a highly technical Sales Engineer to drive business growth throughout Southeast Michigan. This role focuses on developing new customer relationships, expanding existing accounts, and delivering consultative solutions within the Building Automation, HVAC Controls, Industrial Automation, and Energy Management markets. This is an ideal opportunity for a technically minded sales professional who understands building systems and can confidently engage facility managers, engineers, contractors, municipalities, industrial clients, and building owners to develop customized automation and controls solutions.
Responsibilities- Develop and maintain relationships with building owners, facility managers, contractors, consulting engineers, municipalities, and industrial clients.
- Identify opportunities for Building Automation Systems (BAS), controls upgrades, energy management initiatives, retrofits, and service projects.
- Conduct site visits to assess customer needs and identify operational improvement opportunities.
- Review plans, specifications, sequences of operation, and project requirements.
- Develop project estimates, budgets, scopes of work, and technical proposals.
- Present solutions and recommendations to customers and key decision-makers.
- Collaborate with engineering, operations, project management, and service teams to deliver customer solutions.
- Manage opportunities throughout the entire sales cycle, from lead generation through project award and turnover.
- Support customers with budgeting, capital planning, system modernization, and long-term facility improvement strategies.
- Maintain CRM activity, sales forecasts, and pipeline reporting.
- 5+ years of experience in Building Automation Systems (BAS), HVAC Controls, Industrial Automation, Energy Services, Mechanical Contracting, or Technical Sales.
- Strong estimating, proposal development, and project budgeting experience.
- Ability to interpret mechanical plans, electrical drawings, control drawings, specifications, and sequences of operation.
- Proven ability to build and maintain long-term customer relationships.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and consultative selling skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and sales opportunities simultaneously.
