Senior Civil Engineer

Location:
Jackson, MI (Preferred) or any CMS Energy Service Center within Michigan's Lower Peninsula (Hybrid/Field) (Only local candidates will be considered)

Until Jul 2027 (with a possibility of extension)

We are seeking an experienced Engineer III to support Gas Capital Projects focused on Gas Metering and Regulation within the Gas Systems organization. The engineer will manage multiple capital projects involving city gates, regulator stations, gas metering facilities, and gas regulation systems
, while coordinating with internal engineering teams, consultants, contractors, and project management personnel.

This position requires strong civil engineering expertise, project coordination skills, and experience supporting utility or gas infrastructure projects from engineering through construction.

• Support engineering and execution of gas metering and regulation capital projects.
• Develop engineering scopes of work for consulting engineering firms.
• Review engineering designs, construction drawings, specifications, and technical documents.
• Coordinate with civil, mechanical, electrical engineers, project managers, designers, and construction managers.
• Manage engineering consultants and monitor project scope, schedule, budget, and deliverables.
• Review site conditions and perform engineering site assessments as needed.
• Support projects through engineering, permitting, construction, and closeout.
• Review and approve construction drawings prior to field execution.
• Coordinate with contractors during construction and resolve technical issues.
• Maintain project documentation and engineering records within CMS Energy document management systems.
• Manage multiple projects simultaneously in various stages of execution (typically 6–8 projects annually).
• Travel to project sites throughout Michigan's Lower Peninsula as required.

• Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
• 5+ years of civil engineering experience supporting utility, infrastructure, or gas projects.
• Experience supporting Gas Transmission, Gas Distribution, Gas Storage, Gas Metering, Gas Regulation, or Compressor Station projects.
• Experience writing engineering scopes of work.
• Experience reviewing engineering drawings and construction documents.
• Experience coordinating with engineering consultants and contractors.
• Strong understanding of engineering project lifecycle, schedules, budgets, and documentation.
• Excellent communication and cross-functional coordination skills.
• Willingness to travel to project sites across Michigan.

• Professional Engineer (PE) License in the State of Michigan (Preferred).
• Experience with City Gates
